Micro Filter

Just had my Microfilter changed at the time the car was serviced by Wothnton BMW. Charged me $248 but the micro filter indicator kept coming on everytime I swich on.

The wothntn BMW bloke said he couldn't reset the light but assured me it has been replaced. I noticed some dust particles flying out when I turn the AC on. Took it back to the dealer and now he wants an additional $275 to do an AC system service. 165 for service, $80 for regas and best of all $30 for de orderise. Anyone had similar experience with the Micro filter or AC service.

You can get a microfilter for around $30-50 from Ebay (German made parts), then its a 3 minute job to change it yourself (6 screws). Then a 30 second job to reset the light.

Here is a link for resetting the service light yourself.

Its sounds like the Sevice Advisor / person is taking advantage of you.

I bought a micro filter from them:

http://www.partsforbmw.com.au/bmw/

Around $50.00 delivered, a few minutes to install and very easy to reset the iDrive/dash display for a further 2 years. Your service guy should be ashamed of himself as this is one of the EASIEST jobs on an E90.

By the way, my dealer's parts department wanted $150 for the filter, then $100.00 because I told him that the sales guy I have dealt with insisted on trade price for me. Still double the price!!!! Never from a dealer unless it is warranty

This and the wiper blades are definitely service work you can carry out yourself.

Hi guys,

Just a quick question... If the microfilter icon shows up on the idrive, do you need to service the car as well or just change the microfilter only? If its just the microfilter, I'll do it myself

If it's only showing Microfilter in iDrive and Oil still has 10,000kms for example then it's just Microfilter you'll need to change.

Just purchased my second Mann microfilter off of Amazon for $26.97 w/free shipping. It is for an 07 E92. This is a no brainer to replace and I do it yearly at that price. The Mann is made in Germany to OEM specs and works perfectly.

My September 2007 building E92 doesn't have the mircofilter or spark plug service indicators in the iDrive menu either but the dealer told me it's just a software thing and not an error with the car.

I have owned my car since new so I know when certain things like spark plugs have been replaced but things like spark plugs and microfilter are listed above each stamp area in the service booklet. Most dealers fill these in correctly so if these items have been replaced, it should be ticked in your service books.

So since my car does not have the microfilter and spark plugs in the iDrive service menu, does this mean i do not need to reset the service menu for these items when i change them (either through autologic or some other bmw diagnostics device)?

I don't think you need to reset anything because there is no warning indicator that needs to be reset.

In other words, there is no warning coming up on the iDrive telling you that either the microfilter or spark plugs are due to be changed hence there is no warning or interval to reset
