Turbo Issue - Rejected Warranty Claim, Report Attached
Morning Guys,
So car was sent to the garage last week with an issue of slight turbo whining, when the small turbos been taken off you can see polishing on the inside (not deep scoring) but I sent it away anyway. The warranty company has sent the turbo to a specialist and they've replied advising that the turbo hasn't failed however oil was found in the interior surface of both end housings. They have said this could be down to engine breather issue, restriction on the oil return pipe or excessive crankcase pressure. Now they've said that I could replace my turbo at my own expense however the chances are if the above fault isn't resolved then the new turbo will also have the same issue. In the last 3 months I have replaced the seals on the red boost pipe, the seals on the turbos themselves (was replacing the exhaust manifold gasket at the time) and I also replaced the oil supply pipe for the turbo charger (part no 11427795971) as this looked to be leaking also. Now I don't know if I'm getting mixed up but is the part number above the oil return pipe? Also the breather was replaced around 12 months ago... Need help guys... What to do next? Cheers Matthew |

Would this kinda indicate its going to be the oil return pipe?
I'm thinking if it was blocked or partially blocked its going to back up the oil and then it would enter both turbo housings instead of just the one?... because the oil was found in both the small and large turbos. Its part no 7 in the attached photo Any input is appreciated guys, theres been over 150 views on this on the UK Forum and the Turbo forum but not replies. Cheers again, Matthew |

11427795971 That is a supply hose. In the diagram above 1,2 and 3 are supply to turbos. 5,7 go into 8 are returns.
I doubt your return is blocked, they are quite large. One good way would be to elininate the breather issue. All of these throw oil through turbos because of the breather. Stick a catch can on it and see if you get oil in your turbos. Or check intercooler or red boost pipe. Doubt anyone will rip their turbos just to check. |

Yeah I'm not sure how the return would get blocked unless you routinely overheat your engine oil. If there was junk in the oil to the point the return was backing up your bearings would be toast. Seems like it's probably a breather issue since these are known to have a good amount of oil mist in the ccv

So would you replace the breather again and got a catch can and run it for a few weeks?
Red Boost pipes all good, and the inter cooler got checked when I was changing the boost pipe because it had to come off for access. Cheers for the replies guys, appreciate it |

Yeah man. There is no specific made for our cars. But there is a member on this forum that makes a good kit. Just check in some recent threads dedicated to an oil catch can.
