07 335i overheating
Hi,
I have an 07 335i and recently after heating up, it's been creeping to 2-3 ticks past 220* and obviously that seems way too hot. It has been warmer here, low 80s, but it started happening on a day where it was like 60* outside. I had it in for an oil change recently and asked them to look at it. They "ran some tests" on the cooling system and said nothing showed up as out of the ordinary. It has just under 55k miles and I'm wondering if perhaps it's early stages of the water pump going out. Last night, the fuel pump indicator came on... I have a second car, so I have stopped driving it as I don't want to do anything that will harm the engine, but all in all, not sure on my next steps without just starting to randomly replace things like the water pump, etc in terms of the overheating. Any other ideas? I know a mechanic is probably a good step, but wondering if anyone else has had similar overheating issues. |

the 07 temp gauge is centered at 210 and its normal for it to go 240. Idk why they did this but thats a normal temperature. You probably dont have an oil cooler so that normal and can go to 250 on super hot days
Idk about the fuel pump issue. Did the recall before it had a chance to fail. |

I had a fuel pump warning light come on 6 months ago and in the paperwork, BMW noted that because the HPFP had been replaced in the past, they replaced the low fuel pressure sensor and called it good. It's been fine since then. Will probably have to take it back to the dealer. Thanks for weighing in. |

The normal oil temps for these cars are around 230-240 when fully warm. They can go higher safely. I have seem mine at about 245 at the highest. Even if you had a factory oil cooler, the oil t-stat doesn't release until about 240 anyway, so BMW has made that 240 mark the normal operating temp for all n54's. You don't have to worry about damage even if it does go past 240-250. The worst possible thing that could happen is the car will go into limp mode, protecting itself from damaging.

Pull codes if you're worried about it; water pump failure will happen suddenly, the car will say it has overheated and go into limp mode. Mine did two weeks ago; oil temp was fine.
All of the pump faults are shadow codes, so there will be no warning.
