'Stained' exhausts

My car has some black stains on the edges of the chromed tailpipes that I just cannot get rid of. I've tried Autosol stainless steel polish, I've tried using an abrasive brush and I've tried a cutting polish (Autoglym Paint Renovator)...nothing will shift the marks.

I've never had this issue before but I guess that's because most of my previous cars have been owned by me from new and I've always kept them in good nick.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get these chrome tips looking like new?

hmm well i know its a completely different car with regard to exhaust emissions, but i have noticed a lot on mine too. I used 'Meguiars NXT Generation All Metal Polish' on mine, and they came up like new
(for anyone who has wheels like mine i also use this stuff on my stainless dishes on my wheels and it gives an unbelievable shine)

Thanks for the responses so far...the Peek polish and wire wool is cheaper than the Meguiers option so I'm trying that first...just ordered some Peek!

I use Astonish Pan cleaner....YES... PAN CLEANER!

It may sound stupid but it works a treat. I use it on my pipe and it comes up like new. Just use with a damp cloth and rub hard.

Leaves no marks.

Autoglym Metal Polish is the answer, works on all sorts of stuff, and I've still got two shiny pipes after 70k miles

cillic bang is a fucking crime to use it gave me a deep burning sensation in my hands,
I was being thick and not wearing gloves. got the exhaust clean , but boy did it hurt.
Cillic bang is so abrasive you could use it to take black stripes of zebras- DO NOT USE !
