Make sure you run the updated chip in your JBD, contact Terry for that! Even with updated chip you'll need the CANtool or BT to safely experiment with settings. I had the updated chip in my JBD and run it at 100% during 9 months and 80% during the winter. With occasional limps in extreme cold.

must be an OC thing....Im behind the Orange Curtain too and go into limp mode at anything above 80% or so - too bad they dont make blue pills for our cars that we can drop into the tank

I've read these 100% and limp home mode posts for many months. Each time
I'm thinking - "Gee, it's failing". Rather than have a setting that people cannot
use w/out triggering a failure, why not make 80% the 100% setting?

It really sounds like 100% is the "theoretical maximum", which cannot
reliably (key word) be used in the real world. What's the point?

I'm voting with my wallet, thank you.

They wouldn't send you an outdated chip, but their service is great if you want to reach out to them with concerns.

How soon after startup are you goosing the throttle? Are you driving around a bit (couple miles) before taking it past say 70% ?

There isn't a gargantuan difference between 80 and 100, so don't feel too let down. Most of where I feel it is after 80mph.

I’ve had my JBD on the car for over two years now. Its been removed 4/5 times when I’ve taken it in for service to the dealership. I usually reinstall it the night I pick the car up. I’ve never turned it down from 100% since the day I bought it, even when I reinstall it.

I’ve never thrown a code and never had a code appear using the Can Tool.

Rather than make a different JBD for every version of the DME software BMW releases they made one version with an adjustment range. For most newer DME versions anything over 75-80% will throw a code. So for those of you, that setting IS the "maximum effect". I've actually asked BMS to just rescale it so that the current 75% is the new 100% as I think it would make things less confusing for customers. But according to BMS some of the older BMW DME versions can use the 100% setting so they've been reluctant to nerf their power potential just for the sake of marketing.

I agree that from a PR perspective this may be the best bet, but at the same time many people want to know they are getting the most they can out of a mod. Would you really want 75% to be 100% just so you could keep it on the new 100% or would you rather have the option of seeing what works best with your vehicle? We're talking about a small screwdriver and 40 seconds of your time here.

I run at 80 most days and turn it up to 100 when I know I intend to do some more "spirited" driving. The only time I ever threw a code was when I floored it at a point where the car had not yet had the opportunity to warm up (which you shouldn't do anyway). I turned off the car the next chance I got, started her back up, and presto...we're back in business. Meanwhile, the CANtool auto deleted the code so no worries to you more warranty-minded individuals like myself.
