Quick Update - the $933 price Irvine BMW quoted me includes 2 hrs flat rate for programming as the SA clarified. They are not willing to go lower than that and don't care if the SIB says 45 min.

Time to call other dealerships.

Vishnu has told another member on another thread that it is possible to add a piggyback to cars equipped with the BMW PPK.

yea my guess is that it wont be all that popular beyond those like us and thus BMW will have to lower the price even further

It is on their web site, "BMW Performance Power Kit, Installed $779.40". Actually they quoted me $164 for labor.
http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...CenterId=10731

You can find it on just about any dealer's web site. Find the Accessories page and search for power kit. Don't assume they know though. I think this is the case where the information has not filtered down to everybody yet. There is a lot of confusion. Wait a bit if you don't get a reasonable quote.

1. With my BMWCCA discount the software cost me $479.20, which I thought was pretty good. I asked for a quote on labor and they said 2 hrs. I responded that I thought that was excessive for a software reflash and I was told by my SA that she would work on getting the labor down. When I picked up the car, I was charged for 2 hrs of labor at $130 per. My software was last updated less than a year ago when my car shit the bed on the highway.

I am interested in hearing what the labor charges were for others who have had this done. If there are several reports of others having this done at less than two hours I might raise this with the dealer. If 2 hours is standard, so be it (even though I think it's suspect).

2. The performance gains are solid, especially on the highway. Pulling at highway speeds was remarkable stronger. Hitting the gas on the highway entrance ramp in 3rd gear at about 4k rpms was a lot faster. Not sure if I noticed better acceleration around town, but I also agree with others who have said that the torque band is smoothed out. My car is also running smoother and quieter (less of a mechanical racket coming from the engine bay at idle). Not sure if that's related.

Overall: If it weren't for the exorbitant labor fee this would be a good deal. As is, I'm pleased, especially when pulling into the left lane on the highway!
Which dealer did you go here in cambridge?

All - My first post, so hopefully this posts correctly.

Just had the Version 1 done Monday and it cost me $114 in labor. I was the first in this NH dealership to have it done....so it did not go that smoothly. I have a 2011 335i M-Sport. A few notes:

1) The 1 hour charged labor is actually 3 hours of real time.
2) The new pricing of $599 DOES not come with the black kidney grilles and badging. This appears to be a change from other press releases. As you can imagine my surprise when I picked up the car and the new grilles were not on. I had a long heated discussion with the folks at BMW based on the quote I got from the sales dept that included ALL those things. Bottom line they screwed up as all the paperwork was vague on what you actually got. Bottom line, BMW made it right and I got everything for the $599. Just a heads up to other people the $599 is just for the software and nothing else.

Lastly, the changes to the HP and Torque are very noticeable and I'm very happy to get the additional performance and not have to worry about warranty issues.

$718 Installed

Just recieved confirmation from my SA - Stage 1 Kit and installation for $718. I'm ordering today and should have install completed next week.

Consistent with what 40Below wrote, the grilles and badging do not come with this kit. He quoted me a total package price of $850 for the Stage 1, badge, and grilles installed. I'm just going with the software update.

I already have the BMW performance exhaust so I'm anxious to see how the ECU update and exhaust work in tandem.

I believe some members are getting the "power kit" badge with the version 1.

I am dropping off my car for install today.

so if it does not include the little sticker under the engine what does that mean for future services? the dealer will reflash to stock and then a fight will ensue to get the power kit reflashed?

I think the version 1 power kit does include the sticker/badge. picture of it is posted in PAMidge's review thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=582730

I have an appointment at United BMW (Roswell, GA) to get this installed on Monday. Price quoted to me is $720 (kit - 10% BMWCCA discount + 1 hr labor + tax)

how much mark-up do you think the dealer is making off the $599 MSRP?

I called my dealer SA and he seemed excited about getting me in ASAP. They will charge one hour labor he said plus tax. I am just about sold on this PPK.

Does anyone know what BMW means by the badge? Are they referring to the PPK sticker under the hood or is there an actual badge somewhere outside the car?

I would guess BMW is charging the dealers somewhere in the $350-400 range, how else would some of these dealers be okay with the ~$480 price post CCA discount

IMO the deal for the older N54 that includes new MSD81 is great.

I would like to get the cooling as well.
Can you provide any info on how/why the MSD81 is better than the MSD80?

Those of us needing the upgrade would be looking at higher labor costs to install, so I'm wondering what the advantages might be.

There are two kits.

BMW Performance Edition Package. It includes:
•BMW Performance Black Kidney Grille-Left
•BMW Performance Black Kidney Grille-Right
•BMW Performance Edition Badge
•BMW Power Kit

The other includes only the BMW Power Kit, which is the software upgrade.

Please answer this gurus? It's been asked a few times in different threads. What benefit will the msd81 upgrade provide?

considering you can get it for about $534 shipped with tax from stevens creek, you should buy it there and then take it to other dealer for an install under $700

I don't know, but IIRC, I thought that back when the MSD81 came out, everyone was saying that it had lag, was less responsive, less powerful etc and there were lots of people swearing they'd never let the dealer upgrade the software on their 80s

and yes folks I know how to do multiple quotes but didn't realize I'd be responding to two people and didn't want to go back and change it

Quick update on the Phase 1 tune 335i

This is my first post on this site, as the new car is only a week old. We really missed our '98 528 stick when it sort of self distructed a few years ago. We said that we would never buy another, but here we are....with another stick, but that's a story for another day.

Can someone give me a "down and dirty rundown" on phase 1?
Final price/ part and labor
An objective and /or seat of the pants review
How is the "burble" integrated into a manual trans, if at all?
Is it a reasonable return on investment

The badge is the metal display plate under the hood, and YES it comes with the software-only install

Just called Santa Barbara BMW and they told me $406 for installation. They claimed they had to replace the DME. I told them thanks but no thanks.

Has anyone found anything reasonable in Central/Southern California?
