Whoa, never seen this before...
I saw I had some fluid leaking from one of my rear shocks, so I changed them this weekend. Check out the damage on this thing! The other side was mint, looked totally fine.

Maybe previous owner had one failed shock. Knowing that the car will be sold, probably went to a shop and put any used shock that was laying around collecting rust.
And there you have it. |

That sneaky rusty shit was all hidden by the bumpstop/cover assembly. |
