E9X Owners, What type of oil/filter are you currently running?

For everyone who car is out of warranty(4 years or 50K+ miles). Have you decided to stay with BMW recommend Castol oil or have you decided to try a different brand oil? Also, if you switch to a different brand, what type of filter are you going with?

I have an 08 328 w/23k miles and rarely drive it. The last time it had its oil change, was when it was in warranty. Now, I would like to use royal purple. Has anyone had experience of running royal purple in your engine? What type of filter did you go with the purple? I bought royal purple and bosh oil filter today. I'm not a fan of Castol oil. I've used royal purple on my previous cars, but not on my bmw, so this is new. Also, what are some other good oil and filter brands?

Personally I just stick with the Castrol. I can't see it making a huge difference either way...

seems like there's really no reason not to use BMW 5W30 if you're going to stick with the LL-01 requirement....

Well, at 203,500 miles now and using only BMW OEM oil and filters at 17,500 mile OCIs, I can say sticking with the OEM products is not a bad idea.

OEM filter and OEM "BMW" oil from the dealer that I change myself every 7.5k miles. Less hassle that way since they'll always have it in stock albeit $10 more expensive overall at the dealership. Car parts stores around my place are hit and miss on LL-01.

Same here. i tried Mobil 1 0-40 and I didn't seem to like it much. Mentally I guess, it felt wrong?
Went back with BMW oil and filter and change also at 7500 miles myself.

I wouldnt use aftermarket filters unless you change them every 3k. I used stp years ago while changing oil and filter every 10k and the filter deteriorated. stick with oem, as far as oil I have had good results with many other high quality oils. moble 1, castrol, red line and royal purple.

I don't know about stp but WIX is a pretty damn good filter if they make it for bmw.. WIX also costs a ton.

No, around 7500 at the most. Never liked the recommended 15K intervals.

Wow - that would be nice. My indie's price is $75 - DIY is still around $65ish depending on oil. Who would ever have thought?

I miss my Land Rover Disco 2 - used to use Rotella oil in it and buy it in bulk - it was like 15 bucks for a jug at Wal-Mart. Oil and filter change DIY - 20 bucks at a time.

OEM BMW (Mann) Filter. Switched to German Castrol 0W-30 last oil change. Still has the LL-01 cert and I used it quite a while in the STI and liked it a lot. When I change it later this month I will get an oil analysis done and compare it to the BMW oil.
