AR Design Oil Cooler Retrofitted

I got this done over the weekend. The car still goes up to 240F on the highway, However, under repeated acceleration runs in a row, the temps won't go over 240. My first track even will be in may, and I'll report back if there are any issues. Car was useless without this at the track. As for the coolant, I'm going with total auto supra coolant + Gunk Liquid Kool additive.
Sorry for the crappy cellphone pics

Nice, this is the first mod I got for my 09 335xi. It will be here tomorrow.

Did you do the install or have it done? If you did it, is at a DIY for a normally talented home mechanic?

Thanks

Ray

No, I had it professionally done. I had LOTS of issues, because I didn't buy a retrofit kit, instead, I bought the non-retrofit kit, and bought the OEM parts separately. You might want to get it done at a reputable shop, unless you are a Really talented home mechanic.

My prior work experience was at most a tune-up and a little body work. Retrofitting the oil filter housing was about half of the work for me, but I installed a Dinan one, (which required drilling rivets in the front bumper carrier...) I just couldn't bear paying a dealer approx. $150/hr for 10.5 hrs of work, so I took my time and did it mostly at night when my son was asleep for about 1 week. How to mount the cooler for the AR kit would be a question to me. (I actually have one sitting around as well as the Stett Stage 2 one as well.) If you want to try you can feel free to ask me questions about the oil filter housing. Some have been able to replace the gasket without removing/loosening the intake manifold, basically the same thing as retrofitting. I guess the only downside would be you couldn't torque the one bolt to spec.

Did you plug up the extra holes in the AR adapter or did you get another/factory cooler to plug in? I'm kind of surprised...

OP, did your car have the OEM oil cooler as well? This is my next mod, i don't have a oil cooler and need to get something. I'm trying to figure out what the best option is.

This is where I got mesed up, and had the wrong adapter for the car, initially. The one you see is the one for the retrofit, so the right side is divided in half, and oil isn't flowing straight through. No need to plug the holes there.

No, my car didn't have the OEM oil cooler, and my oil filter housing was different. I recommend the ar design oil cooler. Just make sure to get a retrofit kit.

You are still running the stock oil thermostat, take that out and you will see lower temps.

Err... Instead of doing that, I could have just bought the STETT kit w/o a thermostat. The reason I won't do that is because the factory thermostat is set to 230 degrees for a reason. It opens at 230 and is fully openned at 250 or so degrees. This allows moisture to boil off fully. Without that you risk moisture getting into the engine on a regular basis. Not my cup of tea.
