ACCIDENT

Today the wife pulled out of her work car park to turn right, a kind lady slowed down from the right to give way and just as the wife moved out to join the road BANG a motorbike hit the front bumper of my car. Nobody was injured thankfully. I have been on to the insurance company and they have given me details of their approved bodyshop. The company is called Chandler Stewart and after doing a bit of research i find they are Porsche approved. I was a bit unsure about using a non BMW bodyshop but i have been told that some BMW bodyshops sub contract the work out. Has anybody used Chandler Stewart or any advice would be great.
Thanks.

My last insurance claim work was at some random place mate. Some place in Gravesend industrial estate.

I tried to get a BMW Approved bodyshop but had no luck. It was Porsche approved as well (as is yours) and the job they did was great. There's plenty of outfits these days that do a equally/better job than BMW bodyshops. I wouldn't worry about it.

You mean your wife pulled out on a motorbike?
You have to make sure traffic has given way before pulling out

Not being a dick. Just a warning, this one is only going to go down as a 100% her fault claim.

Hope the rider was OK as well..

This.

Unless he was going over the speed limit or something.

To be fair OP has not said it was the motorcyclists fault...

shouldnt the motorbike stop if the car in front stops to give way to someone.

I know they overtake cars etc.. but surely theres some rule that they cant overtake whenever they want, unless ive mistaken the op's post and the bike hit from the left?

No. When you have to give way by the highway code, as she did - then you have to give way! you don't pull in front of vehicles!

only way this could change was if you can prove the bike was speeding...

sorry for going off topic though..

Thanks all. The motorbike came from behind the lady's car on the right and my wife has several witnesses who said the bike was travelling too fast. The biker was fine and he got up straight away and was not injured. I am not to worried about who is at fault as my policy is fully protected.

Ah so it wasn't on the opposite side of the ride coming the other way. Fair enough. May have been blind for the motorbike until he saw your wife coming out. Either way hope it all gets sorted.

Cheers mate. My previous cars have had work done by Coachwork Renovations and K T Coachworks in Gravesend and one of these were not very good, i can't remember which one it was as it was a few years ago.

I recently used a BMW approved bodyshop as I wanted to enusre they used official BMW parts and paint. Plus I wanted to ensure that any warranty on the car isn't affected. Not sure if there will be problems if you use a non-approved body shop and then have some related problems.

Admiral recommended some place in slough for me that was Porsche approved I think but that doesn't mean they are familiar with BMWs - perhaps find a place you like and maybe one that sees a lot of BMWs.

My Synter dealer does send their cars off to Fastlane but they are BMW approved (so I'm told) and I got a little guarantee and associated paper work to support this.

Don't ge me wrong I always squeeze left when I see a bike coming up on my shoulder so as not to put them on the white line (you like grip yeah?) but it really doesn't help when you guys weave in and out of traffic.

To say that eiter side is to blame most of the time ignores the fact that we're all supposed to work together on the roads.

Not seen the new campaign that is starting, saying that bikers need to stop blaming others and take some responsibility.

Biker is this situation should have realised what was happening and not shot around the car that was slowing.

Of course bikers can be stupid on the roads.
I have seen many bikers do overtaking manoeuvres that were outright dangerous.

But the majority of the time, in my opinion and experience, people in cars etc just dont look out for bikes.

I respect both points of view, Neither party is faultless!

Just because some one slows down to let you out or indicates to you to pull out doesn't mean that's safe to do so. The onus is on you to make sure that it is safe to proceed.

Like wise the biker should have read the situation and not overtaken the car that slowed down.

Both parties made errors and they are lucky that no one was seriously injured.

or perhaps those people aren't expecting bikers to hold the road position that they are.

the majority of bikers round this neck of the woods generally drive as fast and foolishly as possible - and then complain (or worse) when they get mullered by a car driver who may or may not be paying 100% attention.

obviously there are lots of drivers who are being just as stooopid - but clearly their advantage is that there's more between them and anything else than a strip of leather - so there's more room for "phew-that-was-close" stories.

BTW, to the OP - glad in this situation all ended without injury. Can't have been a good day for your wife or the biker...

a higher % of bike riders are ''On it'' compared to car drivers, which does lead to accidents.

Near enough all Bikers love the thrill. There is a smaller % of car drivers who do. Usually us car enthusiasts.

Well duh of course you have to give way but what im saying is if its definately clear and you turn then a bike suddenly overtakes the car giving you way, surely its his fault for being stupid and overtaking a car giving way to someone whos already more or less turned in the road.

Its happend to me once and i almost wanted to murder the guy because both sides gave way and as i was half way turning right, a hero biker decided to overtake a car an almost go into me.

end rant. Sorry for off topic, hope all goes well for you OP.
