Hi Everyone,

In my searching for a good extended warranty I think i've found a good one. One thing that sets it apart from the BMW warranty is that it covers suspension components, including bushings [based on what I've read in example contracts, BMW does not cover that]. It has towing coverage, available in 0, 50, 100 deductibles, maximum coverage term is 125,000 miles / 7 years (25k more than BMW). Best of all, I think the pricing is better than BMWs. The price for my car to be covered by BMW is something like $3300, and that's for 6 years 100k miles. With Ford ExtraCare ESP I can get 7 years 100k for $3035 (plus they have coupon codes so it looks like it will be $2800).

The PremiumCare pricing jumps a quite a bit more but covers substantially more stuff. However some of those things are already covered by the 7 year / 70k emissions warranty from BMW so I don't think I will buy the top end contract.

To me it seems like a much better deal; I called and spoke with the people @ fordespwarranty.com and they said they use a corporate card for authorized repairs, so I should never have to pay out of pocket and file a claim or ask for reimbursement.

The method of getting warranty work done is:

Take to BMW Dealer -> Authorize them to LOOK at the car -> Call Ford ESP w/ findings -> Ford Authorizes Repair, Pays over phone -> Get your car back


I compiled a matrix of the top 3 levels, there is one lower level that is powertrain care, only covers 24 components (not shown below)











All in all it looks pretty good, thinking I might go this route!

You'd need over 3k in repairs just to break even. What are the chances of that happening? Not likely. Save your cash extended warranties are a huge profit center.

There's def. a risk involved with doing that; what if you have the $3k sitting in savings for car repair and in one occurance use it all; you have to hope your car doesn't break again for the remainder of when you own it..

My TL had over $5k in warranty work done.. they are worth it

I guess it depends on what kind of history you have with the vehicle during your first 50k. So far I have 70K on my 328i and the only thing that "broke" was a $140 DMTL pump. I say not worth it for the BMW.

I had a 95 miata with 70k that needed nothing.
I had an 04 Acura TSX that had almost 100k and needed nothing
I had an 06 Civic that I put almost 100k on and it needed nothing

05 Land Rover LR3 I put 50k and that did end up needing a $1500 heated windshield under warranty before I sold it. Other than that no issues and Land Rovers are supposed to be the most unreliable vehicles on the planet. That LR3 was nice... but 19mpg on the highway wasn't cutting it for me.

On the other hand, I went through the whole E34 Nikasil vs. Alusil nightmare and ended up dropping over $6K for a new engine when BMW wouldn't cover it. BMW is really good at wiggling their way out of repair/recall costs.

One thing that is good though...having the extended Service Contract is a good selling point...especially if you sell the car at 85K with a 100K contract.

Note -- I am in the market and just checked the Ford page, they won't sell you an extended warranty if you are more than 3 years of 36K miles since your inservice date. I have about 40K on my 335i, so that lets me out.

Choose BMW, All Models, then pick the option the correct options:

Vehicle Purchase Date: Over 12 months, still within factory warranty
Vehicle Mileage: 12,001 to end of original warranty

Then choose your deductible, then your plan

I doubt an aftermarket company approves claims over the phone. If your car is modded make sure you remove all of your mods before going in. Warranty Solutions denied a claim cuz I was modded. I went in for an engine part replacement and my tech told me the adjuster quickly said he wasn't gonna approve the claim cuz I was lowered on coils.

The adjuster said any mod on the car automatically voids the warranty.

Modifications will void the warranty on the item modified plus anything it takes with it when/if it fails, or if it causes another component to fail.

Your coil overs wouldn't cause your nav to break or something; so if they deny that you can promptly tell them to fuck themselves and pay the claim.

If the dealer calls the warranty line and explains the full diagnosis they will approve over the phone and pay by credit card; if it's something major like replacing an entire engine they're going to want to look at it.

Believe me when I say I let that fucker have it, this was after my tech let him have it too I canceled their ass and went the BMW in house route. I was trying to save a few bucks at first, but in the end I ended up spending more. It's all good tho, BMW has never hassled me.

As someone who sells Fords, and drives used everything else. The Ford ESP Platinum coverage is the best out there. Ive had them replace 11k of parts on VW touareg, my Cadillac needed a Supercharger, and various little things. Brought the vehicles to thier specific brands, then let them make the call to ESP. Never had a problem with coverage approval.
