This is the first car I've ever had where the rears wear significantly faster than the fronts. My hunch is it's not physics, it's electronics. Just like new Accords whose rear brakes last as little as 15k. The CBS says my fronts have 41k left, and the rears 24k. The car has 26k and is over 4 y.o. my hunch is the squeaking is somehow stability/traction etc. related.

before your warranty is up bring it in and have them check out your car... mention your brakes squeak... having a cool Service Adviser helps too...

are you driving an auto? if you don't down-shift going into corners, I suspect the DSC kicks-in more often than you think.

I think it's within 1000 miles, but you might be able to get away with a little more than that. Drive your car for another 6 months, and take it in just before the warranty expires.

The rear brakes wear faster because they do most of the stopping on a BMW that is why you don't have a nose dive when going on the brakes hard. my 06 at 90,000 miles went in for service and i asked them to check them they did and they replaced them even though the computer did not say it needed them. the service tech measured the rear pads and they were at specs to be replaced. they just didn't set off the warning.

I am sure its differ from dealer to dealer, I have 2 months and 5000 miles to go before my cabin filter is due, when i bring it to the dealer, my SA "reminded" me that they are due, and should be change out for $150??? HOLY CRAP, I can get one for $50 and put it in myself in 10 minutes.
However, when my brake pad is over 1000 miles and a little over a month due for service, when I ask my SA, he said it is not due yet, obviously not, cause its a free service, so go figure |

It's mainly based off a combination of front/rear braking bias and if your rear has an electronic traction control / ESD.
My wife's Jetta (2001) burned thru rear brakes twice as fast as the front. I can tell you that thing has major front dive when braking. It has no traction/stability control. In this case, it's really the braking bias vs. the sizing difference of the front/rear braking system. |

parking brake uses a separate drum/shoe mechanism inside the regular rear brake rotor.

i remember a member on here had like 7-8k left on his brakes, he took his car to a track session and the CBS read 600 miles left on his brakes. Just drive it hard and brake a lot!
About the stomp and the gas and brake to wear out the back, i thought gas + brake threw a code on our cars or something? would it be considered abuse? |

Just a quick question, my rear brake service is due soon too... what does this entail? Brake Pads + Rotors or only the pads?

But if you go in for a brake job out of warranty, they'll tell you to replace both pads and rotors at the same time, EVERY time! |
