Is NLS/2-step worth the upgrade to Rev 3?

I'm currently running Rev 2.5 right now and am trying to take my car to the drag strip next month to see how I do in the 1/4 mile. Would NLS/2-step improve my times by a lot or is it not worth it? Would the kind of tires matter when using 2-step? I'm also worried whether or not NLS can be bad for the clutch?

NLS/2-step is bad for turbos, but it def should improve time and youll get more consistent launchs.

IMO, im young and think 2-step is cool. No cats=fireballs. i wouldnt really do it very often, but if you do launch your car often or really drive i think its worth it. i guess its better to have and not use then to not have at all.

Unless you have drag radials/slicks, a 2-step is pretty useless in terms of 1/4 performance. With it, you will built enough boost in neutral to light up any street tire uncontrollably.

FWIW, with our single turbo car (which runs hoosier slicks), I use 2-step to build nearly 10psi of boost with a 5500rpm 2-step. With all that boost and tons of mechanical grip, the car pulls a peak of 1.3G during the launch.

If you are running street tires, 2-step is mainly a cool sounding feature. More useful is the NLS feature which allows you to shift quickly, with little loss of boost between gears and with much less transmission stress. That is definitely worth it.

I imagine a 6MT xi would benefit from 2-step if the track is well prepped. I've not personally tested it though. The NLS is a bigger benefit for most people in most situations.

I think the native Usb and extra input/output channels make the Rev 3 upgrade worth it. I always used to have disconnect issues with the serial to Usb cable, and I tried several different adapters.

Shiv,
With NLS, you still have fuel injecting into the cylinders, just no ignition spark. Does that extra fuel burning in the cylinder and in the exhaust cause any harm to the engine, turbos, or exhaust?>?

Nls, 2-step, or neither?

Neither.
I don't drag race for 2step and I feel like NLS takes longer than a normal shift.

Fuel is cut along with ignition. So there is no fuel to ignite in the exhaust manifold/dp. There may be a small amount of fuel that sneaks through when ignition is pulsed but it's harmless.

B5 S4's are known for their ability to launch time and time again without anything breaking. thats one of the good things theyre known for. e90s not so much. my buddy broke a halfshaft on a 328i.

I upgraded to the rev 3, but haven't installed the 2-step/nls relay yet.

But I have been using the built in USB. That alone has been worth it for me, since I don't have to dig out the ancient laptop or deal with flaky usb-serial converters.
