335d turbo loss of power or so I thought!
Well I just recently purchased a 2011 335d with 10k. In two months I put on 5k. After the first month or so I thought I may have a turbo problem when the car drove lethargically after warming up. It felt more like a 328i instead of a 335d. So just today I took it to the SA at my local dealership. They took the car in for an hour and came back and told me they tested it and felt the lethargic acceleration but they claim it wasn't the turbo but instead the transmission wasn't shifting correctly and so they recalibrated the transmission and updated all the software. Apparently there was an update for the transmission software. Anyway I haven't really had a chance to test the car to see if there's a difference but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue that turned out to be transmission related?
BTW this is my first post on here. |

Welcome aboard Merv. I am fairly new myself. As for the tranny issue, I haven't had much experience with this, but will ask if anything has been done to the trans when I take it in for it's next service.

I've just had the car less than 2 months and haven't received any notice from BMW and the dealership I bought it from wasn't sure of any recall for the emissions system. |

Btw not all 335ds needs the EGR replaced. I talked to BMW NA and most of the 335d made after 6/2011 already have updated version. I got wrong notice in the mail and went to the dealer for the recall. Somehow the notice I got was for 335d 2009 that I never purchased. |

Thanks!
Huh, that's odd you got the wrong letter. Well mines a 4/2011 production so I'm guessing it may need the recall done if it got the affected parts installed. Is there a way for BMW to check if my car needs it done via the VIN and just calling in? I'm wondering if the EGR or other related emission equipment would have an affect on boost performance? |

I just now tested the car out on the interstate and the boost still seems to be quite lethargic. I'm coming from a 328i and it feels like I'm still driving a 328i instead of a 335d. When the engine has just started up after sitting for a while and I drive it for less than 10 min it feels like the boost is there. It's just usually when the engine is warm that I feel the loss of power. |

Heat soak is when the IC temps are higher than expected and the IC sensor tells the ECU to go in Safe Mode, that usually happens either when you back to back racing or in Traffic jams or heavy city driving . The only solution is either deal with it or buy a better IC. Anyone correct me on this ok

you have two choices for ICs either go thru Cx Racing(which has one developed for DIESELS) or wait for the WAGNER IC(BTW is in the makings)which will look as OEM as possible, turboeddie from the Boost told me he's getting anywhere from 45-47 mpg HWY!!! yes you read that right!!! from the Cx Racing IC he made

I looked under the hood and on the side of the engine near the exhaust there is a lot of this sooty residue that somewhat wipes off and feels gritty and slightly oily. I've researched forums and it seems this is somewhat normal. I've never noticed this before and everything was clean when I got the car. It's almost like the sooty residue has been sprayed on. I found a post on a mini forum where a guy had to have his turbo replaced including seals by the cat converter. Here's the link: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-cooper-diesel/190431-resolved-black-soot-turbocharger-photos.html
I'm wondering if my loss in power may be connected to this sooty residue. This guy here posted pics of his sooty residue. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678401 |

You should get a SES light if you have a boost leak. The soot is normal for the diesel.
How are you driving? Do you have a tune? Are you using cheapo diesel? |

It still still feels some what sluggish with early morning temps in the low 70's. The boost coming and going is intermittent.
I've never noticed a regen cycle and I've been driving the car for 5k miles. Is this something that should be noticed, at least from time to time? I drive 75% of the time on the interstate between 70-80mph and the rest is in city and on county roads. |
