Thumbs up BMW Z10 development continues, according to Automobile Magazine

As featured on Bimmerpost homepage.

Despite earlier rumors of its demise, development of the BMW Z10 continues according to Automobile Magazine. According to the latest rumors, this potential "halo" BMW sports car will be a mid-engined supercar and feature the latest efficient technologies BMW has to offer, including:
  • ample use of lightweight materials : carbon fiber and aluminum structure and magnesium chassis parts
  • being engineered as a coupe and roadster form, both in 2+2 arrangement with more interior room than a Porsche 911
  • target weight of approximately 3300 pounds
  • Potential engines:
    • 3.0L twin-turbo straight six cylinder engine outputting 450hp / 350lb-ft torque (uprated version of the engine that will power the next generation M3)
    • twin-turbo V6 engine
  • 8 speed DCT transmission
  • integrated AC motor/generator and lithium-ion batteries
  • thermal-management system to improve overall performance efficiency by preheating lubricants with exhaust gas and restricting internal airflow
  • active control of ride height, spoilers, and aero components for maximum aerodynamics
  • approximate cost: $110,000
  • release date: late 2014 / early 2015
Of course, all this is yet to be confirmed, but we're certainly excited about even the mere prospects of a Z10!

Automobile Magazine's impression of what the Z10 may resemble:

they NEED a supercar to showcase the best about BMW brand, the car that will demolish much more expensive opposition.

So for their sake, I hope they pull through.

Build bunch of isettas and minis to pay for it.

Thats just the BMW Z10, imagine what it would be like if the M division got ahold of it!

I'm not sure if they would need an M version of this car. It sounds like it's going to be a relatively low-production model and wouldn't surprise me if there is just one version.

I think it will be "M" quality right out of the box anyways (though I doubt it will have any badges relating to "M").

It's not a mid engined rival for the R8. Our customers do not want an interpretation of the Audi R8.
It will be a high end Coupe and Roadster . It will not be a supercar per se and it will not exceed power wise cars of this class.

It's all about moving the game on and taking the next step.
The car will feature lightweight materials and also the latest "Efficient Dynamics" technology with engines that will be strictly adhered to this model. The concept is more of a radical update of the Z8.
As seen on the initial idea of the "California Spyder".

More power/tq and less weight. What do you think? It's what the current M3 SHOULD be.

Specs are a bit subpar for a supercar..
That engine should go into next M3...
