255 vs. 265 rear tires, which one works better with 225 front tires?

hey guys, i'm trying to decide which setup works better with my wheel.

I'm getting 19x9 front and 19x10 rear,

would 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 work better, or

would 225/35/19 and 265/30/19 work better for all wheel drive? less rolling diameter differences? Some say 255 some say 265, but I want to ask the experts here to be sure.

Thanks

255, don't want to keep the front and back too different or else it'll star to induce understeer as well as problems with traction control sometimes. (i might be wrong xD, but that is what i think). Good Luck!

Hey,

I am no expert by any means, but with the wheel widths you have, 225 in the front might be a stretch, unless, of course, you want that setup. I have attached a handy link:

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

This will not only tell you everything you want to know, it also gives the minimum and maximum wheel widths for each tire size.

With that said, while 225F/255R work pretty much in 18 inch, you will have a really stretched look front and back due to the 9x19F/10x19R setup.

Looking at the link, you will discover that the max safe width for 225 is 8.5 inches, in either size (18 or 19s). On the other hand, the max width for 255 is 9.5 inches, whereas at 265, the max width is 10 inches, and the rolling diameter is even closer front to back (225/265).

If you want to play it safer, try 235F/275R because they are nearly perfect front to back.

IMO, I would go with 235/275 first, or 225/265 if you don't mind a mild stretched look in front, unless you get Michelin Pilot Super Sports, which are pretty meaty tires, to begin with.

+1

235/275 are very close in height, if that matters to you OP. What offsets are your wheels?

Hey guys,

I have a question that is somewhat related to the OP's question. I would create another thread, but I can't since this is my first post. Anyways, I recently got some of the F10 M5 replica rims that are 18x8 and 18x9. Both are ET+35. From what I have read, I could go with 2 tire setups: 225/40R18 255/35R18, or 235/40R18 265/35R18. Which setup would be best? I have a 2008 328 e90.

I had both. Either one works... I went plus size because of the tires I used.

When I switched to meaty Micheline Pilot Super Sports, I went back to OEM specs at 225/255, because they filled the wheel and the well and were less expensive than the plus sizes.

thanks. very informative site. I ended up going with 225f (falken FK453, because the Michelin PSS were out of stock nation wide for this size) and 255r (Michelin PSS). If falken FK453 made 255 for the rear, I would've went with Falken instead.

et24 for front and et15 for rear. I'm going with 225f and 255r.

You can run 245 and 275. My buddy has that setup with an X drive.
