Help! My Car Is Sitting In The Middle Of The Street

So I was backing up out of my drive way and all the sudden I hear this really loud rubbing sound. I get out of my car and go to the rear passenger wheel and the wheel is sitting all the way up in the wheelwell and resting on the fender. I havent hit any potholes and no damage has ever been done to my car. Has anybody had this happen to them?/Know what happened? Any info much appreciated, my car is sitting half way in the drive way and half way in the street waiting to be towed. Any advise on how to tow it without any damage would be much appreciated also. Thanks!!

The ONLY way to tell what is wrong is to crawl under the car....LOOK for what is not correct!

Remove the wheel and jack it up some then inspect. Shocks do not dictate ride height unless youre on bags. If you can depress a shock by hand how does it hold up the car?

Why would my wheel be on the fender? I know the springs have something to do with it but they look ok...

I agree, blown shock or just maybe a busted shock mount. Cross your fingers and PRAY it's not a rear subframe mount problem. Thought those were finally behind us in the 3-series!

Let us know what it turns out to be, please.

If you did not mess with the suspension then how do you have coilovers lol, it could be a lower control arm or busted spindle. But if the car is on your drive way and getting it towed is a lil to much? Just jack it up and find out, we can all sit here and play the guessing game.

I have mounted a spring on this car with no shock and the tire wasn't in the wheel well. This is probably related to the spring, spindel, lower bushing or control arm. Get under there and you should be able to easily tell.

It's not the shock. Shocks do not have anything to do with holding up your car. They only "dampen" the bounce from the spring. It's something with the control arm or spring.

Any number of things could be wrong here, but the shock isn't the main cause.

1) Check your shock mount. A blown shock won't do that (it'll just rest on the spring), but if it's not mounted, that's exactly what it looks like (I'm telling you this from a bad experience).

2) Crawl underneath and look at your spindle/arms. If you see where a hole that looks like a bolt should be there and it isn't, then there's your answer. (I'm once again telling you this from another bad experience).

If you put up a picture, we could probably guess. Is it straight and under the fender or is the wheel kind of jacked forward or backwards?

could it be that the bolts sheared off the hub??? that is the only thing that i can think of, besides the suspension crapping out on you. that sucks.........

pics would really help us determine what could be wrong........

Ok here is a picture. Let me preface it by saying that this happened while I was in the middle of side stepping into my driveway and when I pulled the car all the way into the street the car regained the normal ride height. However, I side step like this every day and it has never done this before.

so basically there was more weight on the wheel then normal due to me sidestepping but still.. I mean it has never done this to where the wheel is immobile

Oh.. and I took it into the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong... I dont believe them though, this has never happened
