Poor roads
Who else is completely hacked off with the condition of our roads?
After leaving our cul de sac it is like driving off road for 1//4 mile and its meant to be a main road. After returning from 2 weeks in france it really highlights just how bad our roads are maybe I should of brought a 4X4 I saw something on watchdog recently showing how much "slopey shoulders" goes on with local councils and highways agencys they have a 101 get out clauses on what defines a pothole absolute joke this country.. Rant over feel much better now

I agree - was back in the UK this week and was quite shocked at the state of the roads.

I think you just have to live with it and get wheels that don't blow up too easily.

Yup, the gov just screw us drivers out of billions in tax & then say have no money to fix the roads.
But can pay for pointless wars, illegal immigrants & big pay rises for gov workers. Just hope the new gov is at least a bit better then Liebour. |

Yep here in Lincolnshire they are really bad, not just potholes but the road sinking in areas, like the road is a long bouncy castle! Noticed even more after a trip to peterborough, the roads round there are like silk in comparison!

Same here, the roads are terrible. A few guys round here have started buying the yellow, blue and red spray paint the councils use for marking repiars. When the guy goes away they go out and circle even more on the road to try and get the roads a bit better in there area.

Pah, that's nothing - the roads around here are so bad the dentists follow BMW drivers around waiting for the runflat/pothole combo to knock their fillings out
. . . . . and as we all know, fillings cost a lot less than 19" tyres, 225M alloys or new suspension

Living in the West Midlands connovation you would think it was ALL bad but actually it's only Dudley Council who are not filling holes at the mo. These people cannot do road markings properly in the 1st place so no hope really when it comes to potholes. Total naffness.

Our road quality in the Highlands is very poor after such a harsh winter. But even normally, although we have some brilliant roads, the surface quality is so variable that any BMW ride quality on big rims is not my cup of tea. Maximum of 17" on a 3-series, 18" on a 5-series and non run-flats at that, to absorb some of the shocks.
Sorting the car (wheels and suspension) is the only way to get a decent ride, IMO. Don't wait for the roads to get better. HighlandPete |

Pretty shite down here in Essex too. The local councils wait until summer is here before making any repairs in case the first spot of cold weather undoes all their work.

Try London too - all the speed humps are disintergrating taking the inside of your tyres with them. Essex it pretty bad too - my folks live up there and there are some huge potholes to swallow a wheel and take the front strutts with it. I thought about the idea of a 4x4, drove one then forgave the M-sports suspension. We might moan but try driving something else! Unless it's a DS and then you may swap for some gallic carpet flair!

I think big rims and fat/ultra low profile tyres are the stilettos of the car world - look good, not very practical, often break and often lead to red faces.
