I would suggest utorrent to download. It is pretty much the standard go to. The total size is about 22 Gb. It came on a 32 Gb USB stick from BMW.

Thanks for the tip. Need to get a bigger USB stick, though. Any particular brand USB stick to get for formatting purposes or is a SanDisk fine?

Don't know what format it should be but i have been buying the usb 3.0 ones by pqi from newegg, they're small enough to stay in the console w/o an extension cable or carry on a keychain, usb 3.0 is nice for xferring files quickly from your pc. I use them for holding mp3s for road trips... about $30 iirc.

Torrent download took me a day and a half to complete, but all went well. It definitely went faster as more seeds became available into the second day.

I picked up a cheap $20 Sandisk 32gb flash drive from Amazon and it worked just fine. I don't think you need anything fancy for this task.

******* set me up with the FSC code and it worked perfectly. This is the second time I have worked with Sergej and couldn't be more happy. His turnaround time is amazing.

Thanks to jwzimm for initiating the torrent!

Well it looks like I got it all, I'll leave the PC on for a couple days until some people with better connections can get it too. Thanks for setting this up jwzimm! I just hope that I didn't waste my time and that I'll be able to install this myself. Has anyone had any luck trying this on a 2009MY car yet?

Good deal. Tischer sez I got to bring it into the dealership but I don't want to, it's really not even about the money it's about the PITA because neither Tischer nor Sterling BMW will do it on a Saturday Guess I gotta get my code and give it a try. thanks!

Thanks for the info! I have 09/2008 and I'm hoping it'll work without any issues! How did you go about the upgrade once the torrent finished downloading (getting the software on the USB, and getting it into the car)? Did you just follow this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...7&postcount=28
or did you do something different?
Thanks!

Thankfully, the process is much simpler than that DIY.

The file that is available on the torrents, once download is completed, will contain 1 folder (called pkgdb) and a file called config.nfm

I simply copied that folder and file onto a formatted (fat32 in my case) 32gb flash drive.

In terms of installation, I inserted the USB drive into the glovebox USB port and powered up the car (accessory mode or car start). I did accessory mode, but turned off climate fan/angel eyes and auto headlights to minimize battery drain.

Once the Nav has booted, a screen will pop up telling you a navigation update is available and asks if you want to upgrade. Hit 'yes' and it will prompt you for the FSC code. Once a valid code is entered, it will transfer the upgrade files to the hard drive (took me about 30 minutes - so much faster than the DVD's!). After the upgrade, it will ask you to reboot the system. Hit OK and your CiC goes dark and boots back up with the applied Nav update.

If for any reason the process is interrupted, it will pick up where you left off next time you power it up. No need to enter the FSC code more than once.

Hope that helps.

Ok so the message that Tischer posted on their website about it not working on early versions of CIC was false in my case. My car is one of the first 09s (build date of 09/2008)

I downloaded the 2013 maps, got my FSC code and uploaded via glovebox USB no problems. I now have 2013 maps. A lot of 3D was added in my city. Here are some pics:

Thanks for info DrMcCo, I'm going to try that. My download is complete and will be seeding for a few days! Just have to get a 32GB flash drive and the FSC code!
Thank you so much for setting this up jwzimm, pretty sure we love you forever now!

Hey guys, did the USB stick you ordered from Tischer have an official BMW part number with it? I'm trying to find the Mini version of the USB media for their Navigation system for my mother's Countryman. If I knew what the BMW part number was for their USB stick, I could find the Mini version. (Mini uses a different update media than the BMW Professional)

Thanks!

As I just posted in the other thread, it looks like this update is going to work for my 9/2008 build E92 as well - it's recognizing the thumb drive in the glovebox that I copied all the files onto last night from the torrent. So I went ahead and ordered my FSC code, fingers crossed!

again thanks to jwzimm and if anyone is in the Sterling/Reston/Herndon area and wants to come over and update their maps I have a couple battery chargers and usb sticks now that I have the data... or I could just copy the files to your stick from my PC, will take a beer or two for a new USB 3.0 stick rather than a day or two off the torrent.

OK, thanks to jwzimm and Sergej I have current maps in my ride! Took about an hour maybe a little more, only hitch was that I was too impatient and switched the car back on too soon, scared the whee out of me that I'd horked it up but I just switched it back off and let it sit for 10 min. or so then it came back up again. Took a while to display the current version but it is now showing that I'm running 2013.1A just like the pic above. Thanks again! Offer is open to anyone local, come on by and just bring your FSC code and I'll either burn the files onto your stick or just go ahead and update your car if you like. This is a great community!

Edit: forgot to add, my build date is 9/25/2008 and I didn't have any problem at all...? Looks like the torrent is still propagating so I'll leave my PC up for a while longer.

Just wondering, I thought FAT32 would have trouble with that size of file? 22GB

It probably would, but it is a folder with multiple files in it, not one big file. I'm pretty sure the stick I used was FAT32 because it was one of my old ones that I was using for .mp3s before the tiny USB 3.0 ones were available - I didn't reformat it.

Ok, I didn't know they were split, so is the payment to Sergej worth the update?, any changes to the logic?, or just maps

I don't know if there are any new features or not but I have already seen improvement in the maps... too many roads have been built/renamed since 2009!
