Windshield Insurance and Other Options
My SA recommended wheel insurance and windshield insurance. From what I've read so far, it seem like the wheel insurance is not worth it.
1) Has any anyone gotten the windshield insurance? 2) Can someone explain what the it covers or does not cover? 3) Has anyone gotten their tint from the dealer? About how much should I expect it to cost? 4) When it's time to finance, what other options are they going to try to sell me? 5) Any recommendations on options I should go for? Thanks in advance for the helpful information.

I can't specifically speak to having the insurance from the dealer/bmw, but I can say that at least with the BMW shop I tried to go to, they wouldn't accept my insurance so to get my windshield replaced through them would have been 900 something up front and then deal with the insurance company myself. That's a frustrating spot to be in. If the insurance is under 100 I'd personally do it (I have a 50 buck deductible), otherwise go elsewhere for the repair and specify OEM glass.

I'm not sure, I was hoping someone knew the coverage.

Of course your SA recommended it, they make pure profit off all those insurances. Most of the time, they get commission for how many of those they sell too. They wouldn't have these policies if they didn't make good money, so I say skip it - as I say to the wheel/tire coverage, paint protection, and any other crap they try to offer. Between the limitations and the up front cost, I don't see the point. I've had my share of cars, it's never come back to bite me yet.

I wouldn't do any insurance with dealer. They mark up 100% from their cost and then will find ways not to honor coverage. It is up to them whether windshield should be replaced or crack is fixable (i.e. $20 fill it in fix) and you still have a crack. Just self insure and in the long run you'll come out ahead.

I'm worried about having to replace the windshield completely. But that's probably not covered anyway. And really, I probably will never have to have the windshield replaced. Thanks!
