i figured it would be more than this. long story short i was being an idiot and hit a curb. mainly got the pinch weld area. everything else is fine besides the fender. but i think once the rocker panel is replaced the fender will be fine hopefully. flame suit on

if there is unibody damage behind the side skirt that sounds about right by time they pull the sheet metal back and fix all the mounting points for the side skirt

Considering they will have to remove the fender & door ........ cut out the damaged area, replace the rocker (skirt) reweld ....... grind, sand, seal, prime, paint, clear, wetsand, buff, reassemble .......

Yeah, it's labor intensive. I'm sure the estimate will show you 75% of the cost is labor. BMW repair standards are extremely specific to stay within mfg guidelines.

that's BS... just buy a new skirt from someone have a shop install and repaint it etc. It should cost you about 200$ in labor. my experience with body shops (who does extremely good jobs) would charge 350$'ish to install and paint a bumper, so i would ASSUME a skirt is less.

This is like playing the price is right. The damage looks minimal from the picture, but if they have to disassemble things it racks ups quickly.

You must not be seeing all of the damage that the skirt has to attach to.

Unless your guy is working on his own time, is painting in the backyard & guarantees nothing ........ your price is way off. This comes from myself with more than 10 years of body shop repair experience.

so a new side skirt will somehow repair all the bent up metal underneath my car? there is no sideskirt shown in the picture. i have it on now because it covers up the ugly. but yeah. the shop i went to are saying they have to replace the entire b-pillar because it all connects. im kinda thinking that is bs because the area where the b-pillar is doesnt go down that low according to the pictures.

I had the rocket panel replaced on my car back in 2007. Bought it at the local dealership, pained and installed at their body shop, total was approximately $500.00. But that was back in 2007. However, it would have been cheaper had I spend some time on the internet to find the rocker panel online.

No way would any reputable shop would take care of all that damage for $200 labor, unless you know the guys doing the work very well and they're doing a huge favor. You're just wrong. Shops would charge $200 to simply remove the skirt and examine the damage.

$2000 looks about right to me. Presumably you're putting this through insurance, so how does the cost really matter?

I want to get a front bumper cover painted. Best deal I could get on just the paint portion alone was $360 for a reputable shop. That was the price with me bringing them a new bumper cover, letting them paint it, me picking it up and installing myself. Since then my car was in an accident and the rear quarter panel has to be replaced for $8200 so yes this does look like $2,300 worth of damage.

Guys, this isn't going to be a simple job as replacing and repainting the rocker panel. The FRAME that the side skirt is attached to is BENT. This is clearly where the damage does not look anywhere CLOSE to what's actually going to be involved in the fix upon first inspection.

If this job cost anything LESS than $2,000 I would WALK AWAY.

lol seriously! some ppl arent viewing the pix in detail. The whole side rail is bashed in. They would have to perform a frame pull to do it right. Throwing on a new skirt and paint is just masking the real issue. Let us know how it turns out.

You realize that the insurance adjuster being sent to see the damage is elso trained to know everything that needs to be repaired/replaced just as a body shop estimator would be, right?

BMW has extremely strict guidelines for repairs & it doesn't matter sometimes if a part shows damage or not to warrant replacement.

Case in point, my car sustained fairly minor cosmetic damage to the driver's side front end. Because a tie rod had been bent; BMW guidelines required the replacement of the steering rack. It all has to do with the car's alignment & suspension. The part looked to be undamaged, but still upped the repair bill $3750. If the body shop doesn't follow the BMW repair policy then they could ultimately be sued by BMW NA for breach.

The point being there's much more to a BMW repair than you would expect due to BMW's guidelines.
