FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — A Piscataway woman died earlier today from injuries sustained when she was hit by a truck while trying to help a wounded dog on a road in Somerset County, police said.

Franklin Township police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said Tiffany Jantelle, 23, had suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

The dog had to be euthanized because of a broken back it suffered in a collision earlier that night, Rizzo said.

Jantelle was struck around 1 a.m. today on Weston Canal Road, near Randolph Road. She was one of several people who were trying to help the dog, Rizzo said.

Jantelle was hit by a black Dodge pickup truck that briefly stopped before fleeing north, witnesses told police. The truck, believed to be either a 2500 or 3500 series, had a lift kit and twin chrome vertical exhaust pipes behind the cab, Rizzo said.

Two men were in the truck, witnesses said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Franklin Police Officer Richard Hartnett at (732) 873-5533, ext. 3168, or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers TIPS line at (888) 577-TIPS (8477).

Were the exhaust pipes directly behind the cab? And really large? Like a semi setup?

I saw a pick up that matches that description a few days ago in East Hanover. If I knew about this I would have grabbed the plate #s.

Friend of mine works for a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer and the NJSP were there informing them if someone comes in, to call the SP or the local PD

Thanks for all the replies everyone! The truck had vertical exhausts directly behind the cab. This has also been posted on the dodge forums. I'm not Johnathan Batista, but I probably know of him by face.
