Getting Continential DW installed tomorrow
I'm getting Continental ExtremeContact DW tires installed tomorrow.
Opinions? (Other than the fact winter came back and I won't be able to drive much the next couple of weeks until temps rise.) It's not too late for me to back out/switch to a different tire/reconsider/etc. |

I had DWSs on a 135i. Softest tire I'd ever experiences and it ruined the ride. Car was floaty and steering and turn-in we're sloppy.
Comfortable, but I regretted it. I have to say that the run flats made the car handle like a scythe. Sharp sharp sharp |

DW's and DWS's are very different tires.

I have DW tires on my summer wheels. I used them last summer for the first time. Very pleased!! Non-runflat too.

They were extremely sticky. I had excellent traction in all conditions. The problem was that they were structurally too soft for the already FUBAR rear suspension of te 135i. I hear of a lot of people getting DW tires here with e90s and just want to know what about them they like, what the sidewall stiffness is like. Any regrets getting them? Any complaints? These are legitimate questions and concerns. Also, in the NE US, I'd do better with all-seasons. We have shitty roads, snow, ice, rain, and some dirt roads. I don't need something to emulate a track tire on the streets of NYC, or on the dirt roads of NH. |

That said, I'm curious as to how well the e90 responds to these DW tires, as my experience was not positive switching to non run flats on a car designed for run flats...

I would say PSS are about 15% better than DW but cost about 30% more, so its your choice on what to get. But they are summer tires and you said you are better off with all-seasons. Your experience was because you had all season tires, every single all season tire, no matter what brand, is going to give you the same mushy feeling. |

I'm getting the DW, not the DWS. Conti DW are extreme summer tires. Conti DWS are all season tires.
I'm actually going from Conti DWS (All season tires) to Conti DW (extreme summer). I really liked the DWS, but am ready for a dedicated summer/winter set. I had the DWS for a little over 3 years and have to say they are EXCELLENT tires and weighed in heavily in my decision to go with the DW. Although this winter the DWS got a bit squirrley (what to expect after 3 winters!) Also, the DW are half the price, just as reputable, and twice the tread wear as the PSS. Big factors. I appreciate the responses! Last edited by catcher22; 02-26-2014 at 10:42 AM.. |

They turn great because of hard sidewalls. |

Umm there is no international standard when it comes to treadwear ratings, you can only compare within a single manufacture, the actual performance category, extreme, max, ultra high performance summer tire will give you some indication of the kind of life you can expect from a tire, with the highest category's typically having the shortest lifespan (softer rubber), but much better dry performance.

08' 328i with staggered 18's
Have had the DW tires on for about a month+ now. IMO, obviously softer than the RFTs, but seem to handle well for my DD and what I put them through. They are a little softer in the bends (not as crisp as the RFTs and that took some getting use to), but that was to be expected. Ride is firm, but not bone jarring (much better than RFTs). Someone said the suspension bits are made for RFTs and that's true, so I plan to start with my front end and do the M3 upgrade onthe control arms and later do the rear subframe bushings. That should bring back some of the sharpness. Had V12s a few sets ago and like them too, but a little softer and rears were gone in 10K. That's what brought me to the DW this time around. It's a good looking tire too. For the $ I'm happy I went with the DW.
