Proposed Audio Setup??

Hey everyone....

I am in the middle of creating my audio system for my 328I coupe... I have been reading reading reading and reading more.... Basically i am stuck on the speaker thing. I have the base system (10 speaker HiFi) and want to replace everything.

1. I am thinking of replacing all of the 4" speakers with Focal 100KRS speakers... Anyone out there with experience with these? Are there better solutions out there people have experience with??

2. I am confused about the subwoofers (8" below the seats...) Here is what I am thinking and wondering if anyone had tried... I think the enclosures (factory enclosures) can be modified easy to house a 6" midrange speaker to fill that mid range void....

3. Lastly,

I am thinking of the JL Audio stealthbox with some JL 13.5" subs...

or

Buy the all-in-one sub enclusure (sub and amp combo) from BSW... not sure which solution I am going with.

I will be driving all of this with a Kenwood eXcelon 9980HD head unit and a Kenwood eXcelon 5s AMP... I will of course use another AMP to power these JL Audio subs...

Feedback welcome!

Pretty sure you do not want music trying to play from under the seats.

To be honest not sure its WORTH replacing all the speakers with 4" Focal. Rears I will leave alone if it were me. You could even remove those and use the fronts only (I would keep em stock).

Be sure to look into the MS8 from JBL its almost a must have per some people when adding amps. Gives you speaker level in, then 4 pr of RCA out, Crossover, DSP L7, 31 band eq and its pretty simple to set up.

Morels and Rainbows are pretty popular

I have been told the Focals are much more harsh. In any case you need more power to drive any of these .

If you have some money to spend talk to VP Electricty at the above link

You should do the Alpine upgrade, get L7 woofers, amp them at 150W each and add a trunk sub.

What is "The Alpine Upgrade"? does it give me

1. DVD Video
2. Bluetooth integration (Parrot Systems)
3. Navigation (Garmin with Traffic)
4. Pandora Streaming
5. 7" screen
6. 5V preouts
7. Rear Camera compatibility
8. Full Ipod integration (Music and Video!)

I am looking at the Kenwood for these reasons.. I know there are other head units out there but I want all of these features so I think I am pretty set on this head unit...

I am, however, very confused about speakers.... I cannot find anyone that has 100% clear suggestions or direction what is the best solution besides BSW... Which i think is way over priced for non-branded speakers which i cannot test or hear before purchasing.

I do not mind going with Morel or Rainbow but I have never heard of these speakers and do not know what to expect for sound quality.

My other preferred option would be go with MB Quart... Anyone with the MB Quart product?

Thanks again for the help...

MB Quart was bought out by German Masetro

A German Company my local Audio shop says they have been cheapened
and no longer are what they once were.

The Alpine Upgrade was intended for the cheap system that slipped in to the US
in 2010 and 2011 that had no Amp or tweeters. It consists of a tweeter set and upgraded
set of door speakers and a 4 channel 85 watts per channel class D amp and some way to offset the tweaked response curve coming out of the amp-less head unit that was tweaked
for the lack of tweeters.

On average most people are just adding amps and speakers to the stock system
(and processors)
The best solution is the one that works for you
the one you will be satisfied with in your budget .

Do search for it if your curoius(Alpine upgrade)

If you want what you listed above you should look at the dynavin thread
or do a search on head units

again, thank you for all of your help... I am 100% sold on the Kenwood head unit so I am good there... The dynavin is not for me... My installer is going to install the kenwood and AMP.... And relocate my stock stereo to my trunk like suggested in one of the other threads...

Still confused on speakers. I will continue to try and find what will work. I may just go with the Morel speakers and throw some SWS-8's or try and find some kicker SSMB8's out there... The eXcelon amp I am looking at will drive all of these more than OK...

For now going to get the head unit (Kenwood) installed, relocate my factory head unit to the trunk, and get the AMP installed on the factory speakers until i can get this all sorted out...

thanks..
