Would installing a new speaker system void my warranty?

I have the stock system and it is beyond horrendous. I'd like to install some new speakers but I'm afraid it will kill the warranty...

If it does not, which system would you recommend?

They can deny warranty on anything aftermarket.

Realistically, it should be fine unless you start having electrical problems. At that point, it could be blamed on your upgrade. I really doubt BMW would deny a warranty claim on an engine or drivetrain malfunction if you changed your audio.

They can only deny warranty on your electrical stuff if you change the speakers. But if you have electrical problems your screwed.

They can only deny warranty on related components. If you upgrade the speakers they can't deny a warranty claim for the transmission etc. based on the speakers without proving it. They might try and pull a fast one but when push comes to shove they ain't got no push!

You can do whatever you want to the speakers, but if you have RADIO problems, or anything connected to the speakers, you're SOL.

That being said, you don't void "anything" electrical... they have to prove that it caused or is related to the failure. If you have a VTG motor fail electrically for your transfer case, they can't deny warranty on that because you changed the speakers.

Uhh no....even if you add an amp to your car, you are technically still modifying it.

The amp will draw power. This wasn't in BMW's original plan when they designed the car.

A short in the amp could affect the rest of the electrical system....rare but possible.

I remember reading a thread on here where someone's SA told them they had to plug in and remove a cigg lighter accessory a certain way. It is sensitive.......all BS.

OP, anything you add to your car is fair game for BMW to blame. It sucks but it is what it is. Now most dealerships won't care about audio mods, but you need to tread carefully.

If you read the earlier post, I said any change to your electrical system will void your electronics warranty.

I had a pretty cool SA once he said any modification like that won't void the entire warranty. Like BMWSky said, they won't void warranty on engine because of a speaker.

And then he went on to say, and maybe he was full of shit, but if there was an issue with electrical, they'd have to definitively say it was the speaker that caused the fault. I asked about it when putting P46s into my E46 and was concerned about my electrical system being voided by headlights. He said unless the headlights mess up the electrical, the warranty will uphold.

Pretty sure it voids the speaker warranty.

PS: You're right; the factory speakers blow. I'm gonna replace 'em with the BSW set (which, I assume, is what you're planning to do).

Hint: The problem with the base sound isn't the speakers. You'll need to change electrical components and that will possibly cause warranty woes.

I would be extremely selective in who I would allow install an amp and speakers in my car.

As someone else posted, you are wasting your time if you just install speakers, so you will need an amp, and in today's car, that has to be installed properly. And even with expert installation, things could still go wrong.

When I installed a focal amp and speaker set, I talked to me Sales and SA about it first. I went to a reputable shop that they recommended. And if something does go wrong, I am fully on the hook for paying it. But I feel that because I was open and honest about it, my SA is going to be a lot more likely to go to bat for me to help fix any problems and minimize costs if BMW is unable to cover the repairs under warranty.

And finally...BMW should be ashamed of installing these units in their cars. Honestly, the sound from my stereo in my BMW was FAR worse than the stock system that comes in a Toyota Yaris I bought 5 years ago.

And Focal for the win...I absolutely adore the brightness and bass my speakers put out...and no subwoofer was needed to give the rich sound I was looking for. Damage to my wallet...well I will ignore that!
