Exactly! The STI will NOT get a completely different engine just the same engine with FI. It's cheaper.

Hardcore version like the M3 CSL or a 911 GT3 RS?!

That is not the DNA of this car. We are not talking about luxury here. The car is already hardcore in that fun from low weight and price tag is its main goal.

You seem to forget that we are talking about a car that has born from a joint venture to keep the production costs low and hence its price tag.

Price tag! The whole automotive industry is committed to sell more. You live in France, you should know what that means...

This is Miata's 'sales hit' territory...

A S/C version from TRD is good enough for me...

But, you see, there lies the problem with your reasoning... if a more powerful TRD S/C version of the Toyobaru will exist who would care about a more expensive and 'fancy' Subaru version?! It wouldn't sell as much... no way!

Actually I believe the STi is getting the turbocharged FB (impreza) as opposed to FA (brz).

The Scion and Toyota versions look like baby Aston Martins from most angles. Just such a classic sports car shape.

Because of emissions and consumption reasons the actual trend in the automotive industry is direct fuel injection combined with FI.
Subaru is NO different... see their most recent DIT 1.6L boxer engine and how its tiny turbo in the bottom doesn't add much
in the engine's height departement when compared to the FA20 (Subaru boxer + Toyota D-4S fuel direct injection):

Subaru boxer + Toyota D-4S:

DIT 1.6L boxer:

Just look at the tilted air-to-air TMIC placed toward the back in the top of the 1.6L engine:

Now, see how low the engine is mounted and how much height space is available in the Toyobaru's engine bay and note how much plastic after the windshield
could be removed to accommodate a TMIC like that. This picture is truly a revelation :

Hmm alright I must say the last picture you posted does appear to suggest a tilted TMIC is possible. However given how low in the chassis the engine is mounted, the turbo placement might be an issue then.

It's a boxer, the turbo(s) can be right behind the headers, as shown in the previous pics. Packaging wise, this really isn't a challenge. An FMIC still makes for better efficiency and packaging than the TMIC, but whatever, we'll see a factory turbo on this car, no matter what they're saying right now.

True on the FMIC but that hasn't stopped Subaru from using a TMIC for decades.

Yeah, but I'm hoping that since this car doesn't look like a taxi, it might inspire them to try something new.

Yes, I suppose... 600hp and 500lb-ft

In face of that, I guess that a 250hp FA20 Turbo Toyobaru is quite simple to achieve...

A 250 PS NA FA22 is also possible and very likely to happen (for me).

You are missing the Turbo engine torque advantage...

Compared to my actual really torqueless screamer, it will be plenty enough. Consider this car a cheap Porsche. I don't think I'd want any turbo on the 911 GT3, which which is the slowest on straight line when compare to all the HP monsters. If I really wanted something fast on straight line my dream would be a GT-R. More realstically a turboed 1 Series or a WRX STI.

Forget about straight line speed... I'm talking about smoking tires!

I think the 200 HP NA 2.0l engine is enough for me to smoke tires. With a turbocharger it won't sound that good.

You've got a point there...

Did I say a S/C would be better?!
