So, if on the Mustang dyno, you get say, 260 WHP. With Dinan, you should get 306 WHP on the same dyno, no?

Horsepower is horsepower on any dyno, is it not?

Horsepower claims are just marketing. Seeing the difference between the baseline (stock) and the end result is what matters.
Yes, I am fully aware that you're looking for a baseline (stock) and then the experimental (tuned) dyno comparison; it's just strangely odd that their test 335i dyno'd at 296WHP (and then 346WHP after the Dinan ECU Flash). I am not questioning their +52BHP from their ECu Flash; I am just questioning their before (stock) and therefore after (flashed) dyno numbers themselves.

For example, if my car (and most other 335i's on this Forum for that matter) dyno'd stock ~ 265WHP, then according to Dinan, the same car should dyno at ~ 311WHP and that my friends is just under PRocede v1.47 dyno figures; closer to the SSTT and JB1 dyno figures if I'm not mistaken. That's all I'm getting at; nothing more. I guess we need to see some runs between a Dinan 335i vs. PROcede v2 or AA XEDE or JB2 335i, and that will show us everything.

This will sell well. Alot of BMW owners are Hands off and want no part of any installation and want the ability to have an intact warranty. With the marketing that DINANS has at BMW dealerships across the nation and should I say world....?

They will sell so many software up-loads its not even funny. The customer probably won't be a forum type of person. Maybe more of a Car and Driver subscriber........Dinan probaly has a 335i software car heading to Road and Track or Car and driver as we speak. Non-wrenchers eat and read this crap up!

Hey Sparkplug,

I called Dinan, 335xi exhaust no prob. It is an axle back system so pretty similar to the 335i.

I bet if you wait till spring deals can be made. Wait and let the newbies do the testing. I'm in on my '08. Warranty is everything for me on a car worth $70k+

We can all look at charts and dynos....but there are so many environmental / dyno machine variables....

Line up the cars. If the Dinan cars can outrun the Procede 1.47 or SSTT or JB2 cars, i would be very surprised.....

+1. I think we'll see these runs soon as a few ppl get their 335i's flashed with the Dinan ECU Flash and challenge a few PROcede and/or other modded 335i's.

Don't forget Dinan has a MONSTER dyno fan. I remember them doing a whitepaper on the importance on dyno fans on the engine oil, fluid temps and they tested an E39 M5 with their Monster fan and then switched it off and used a regular dyno fan and the M5 lost like 30rwhp or something.

Here's a pic of one of their fans, I'm not sure if it's their biggest one:

And a link to the article:

Hey guys... could possibly one of the other reasons for the larger gain, be the use of 93 octane vs. (I think) most others are all tuning for the more (West Coast) readily available 91 octane?

Octane is a big deal for turbo cars... and I think the difference can just be... they are requiring using 93 Octane to get these gains, where others all use 91 Octane tunes for everything but the 'race' versions.

Any comments?

He conveinently left off the fact that if you have a 2008 you actually DO have to remove your ECU and send it to them. Kind of seems like a spam post to me with no response from them yet.

Basically you pay $2000 for something that doesn't even include a hardware? We questioned Vishnu's pricing at the beginning and that price included a XEDE hardware. This product is $700 more and is just a flash or software update which incurs no additional cost per unit other that the initial R&D. For $2000 we get a warranty, thank you. But is Dinan warranty based on the fact that the software is untraceable? Basically, the warranty Dinan offers is the fact that BMW can't trace the software update so you get to keep your factory warranty. No? Also, it cannot be resold.

Another great and overpriced Dinan product.

If your car does not come with an oil cooler, one is required with the Dinan software to maintain warranty coverage. If you have the factory small oil cooler, Dinan still strongly recommends the larger oil cooler upgrade.

I think we can all agree that each of us will choose our own path for our own reasons.

Some will want absolute power, some will want hp/$, some will want warranty, I belong to the warranty group.

I say this is awesome for the buyer since now there is more choice and more competitiveness for the tuners.

Let's talk about the technical side.

Do the piggy backs do what the Dinan does for controlled use of the water pump? I say this is a big plus, especially for long turbo life.

Like I said before,
They need to offer a trial version of this software.
If they offer it, then I will dyno my car on the same dyno that I used for other tunes.

You can usually get a good feel of the gains by the % increase of boost. I say stop looking at the base/chip hp figures and look at the difference in boost. for our car with the stock turbos I think 1psi is about 12 -15 whp.

Question:

Is dinan marketing to the 335i owners on this board or are they marketing to the (non-enthusiast) public at large who could care less about the cost of a 2k ecu upgrade as long as it makes their car faster? They've already paid 50k for their car........what's another 2k on top of that.

Dont you get the reflash at a Dinan dealership? Arnt those usually BMW dealerships? So wouldnt they mark down your VIN numbers? Wouldnt this allow them to trace it?
