116d in 'No cup holder' Shocker

Actually quite liked the little 116d - very tidy handling and impressive refinement from the non-stressed 2.0d unit. Oh and it did get over 60 mpg!!

But seriously the 1 Series Sport has such a poor level of base equip for a 19k car. I mean it has metal kick plates on the doors, but no arm rest, cruise or climate control . But the worst part was when we went to get a coffee on the motorway and my collegue realised it had no cup holders .
I mean its 2010 BMW, even the koreans put cup holders in base cars!

So asked for a carryout container and improvised thus saving the BMW option price of what £50-100?.

P.s. it workd a treat and is now with the patent office

I realised to my peril that the E46 doesn't have cup holders the other day. At least it's 7 years old so I suppose there's some excuse!!!

The later e46's had a rectangular tray next to the handbrake with a sliding cover. It's the perfect size for a medium starbucks and the sliding cover holds the cup rock steady.

Lol, I used to use that as well on my e46-the sliding cover was brill....

...until tried to carry two cups and at first roundabout the coffee emptied into the passenger seat

Schoolboy error. It's definitely a single cup arrangement.

These 6 series cup holders always make me laugh (think I'd rather have no cup holder)...

My Astra (2005) had none either - most annoying.

BMW have got better - Dad had a new E20 323i in the late 70s/early 80s (can't remember exactly when). A few essential options doubled the list price of the car. Then the engine died after 18 months and had to be replaced - at his expense.
