DAB Radio keeps cutting out - NEW one fitted

Since having my new CIC unit fitted my DAB radio keeps dropping out and loosing the signal. Are there any settings (self or dealer) that can fix this ? It never once dropped out with the old unit that was replaced because the CD skipped.

The DAB unit is in the boot so if the dealer only changed the drive unit then they shouldn't have disturbed it, I believe on CIC units DAB is not a separate unit, have a look under the carpet in the boot, and check all the connections on the modules under there.

OK cheers, where abouts in the boot is it ? is it where the tools are kept on the right hand side ? is if where the spare wheel would be, if it had one ? or is it somewhere else ?

cant help your problem but mine has an annoying habit of dropping out on the hourly beeps, just as the headlines are coming on. A prod of the channel button reconnects so no big dramas

Mine just drops out at random for several seconds at a time. It never dropped out once before the CIC unit was replaced

I know it sounds basic but have you had the unit forward and checked the fakra connections on the back?

the dab is the yellow and green connectors

As soon as you lift the boot floor out you will see the unit towards the back of the seats

Smoked has a point though, as I very much doubt the dealer went in the boot, it may be one of the connectors on the back of main drive unit at the front as that's whats they changed

How do I get the unit out of the dask to check ? I saw the unit in the boot and pushed all the connectors just in case

This is not just for removing unit but it show you how, make sure you cover your trim around the gear stick as resting the unit on it will damage it as only I know to well

if you have cic as I understand it dab is built in. the unit u had in your boot was probably your telematics?!?

target the head unit out you get your fingers under the trim around your headunit from behind your ash tray. that will expose 4 screws. u may need to pop out your air con or indeed the centre console trim depending. its all push fit.

If you have a mustard colour Fakra connection (aerial connector) on the back of the unit then DAB is built into unit, this goes straight to the diversity unit in the roof, there isn't any more components

If the car your CIC came from had DAB it will be built into the CIC unit.
They are don't put separate DAB units in the boot floor anymore.
This stopped with the introduction of the CIC nav.

I guess my DAB is built in the head unit then. I will see if I can get to the back of it next week end to check the aerial connection. Thanks for the help and advice

Not sure if related, but mine has started loosing signal over the last couple of weeks. There has been no work done on the car... but in areas where i used to have solid reception i now get very patchy reception. Its in the dealers tomorrow...

I don't understand if DAB is built onto later CIC units and its just a different diversity aerial and one extra lead, why do BMW charge so much for it, thieving gits!!

I'm going to pull mine out later and see if the connectors there.

The BMW techie phoned as he is struggling to replicate the problem. I only have to drive 5 mins and the thing keeps cutting out. I also mentioned that the automatic switch from DAB to FM doesn't work either. They have the car until 4pm.... So not holding out much hope...

It annoys me that they never touch aanything until the replicate the fault. With intermittant faults it almost ends up less painful to live with the fault and spend half your life in and out the dealer for NFF each time Would it really be that had for them to maybe just check a few connections etc ?

Well unsurprisingly the dealer could not replicate the loss of signal on my dab. I told them that the auto switch over from dab to FM didn't work either. They are consulting BMW technical. So I will have to take the car back at some point.

.... However, as soon as I drove away... Guess what.... DAB lost signal....
