This was posted on 1addicts, but i thought i should post it here. I can't confirm it's a direct swap with a steptronic 3 series but i was under that impression. I think a part number check between the models or other technically experienced members here can clear that up...

Of all of the mods on the car, this was the one that was felt the best.

OS Giken cluth-pack diff was installed in April of this year, been on the car for less than 10k miles, primarily street driven, not driven hard, 5 autocross events, no track days, no drag racing. I never touched the chip on the car, so only the race exhaust adjustment to the power was delivered by this unit. It never struggled.

This is on a steptronic, which did not have the welded final ring gear, but which also means i don't believe the unit is a direct swap into a manual unfortunately.

This was installed by certified BMW techs with BMW tool company issued fancy shiz, certain to be done right.

I'd prefer someone local (chicagoland, specifically NW burbs, lake zurich area) so that we could just go to the same shop to get our diff housings swapped. If it comes down to freighting big-ass diff pumpkins, this car is my daily driver and me freighting my housing to you first is just not in the cards.

OS Giken Diff - i believe the best price i saw was 1,850 out of AMS in western chicagoland. Diff install soup to nuts isn't cheap, to do a core swap and ship around diffs seems to be a market standard $500.

I'm looking into moving the diff because i'm looking to move the car. Unlike many bimmer people, i financed. Though i'm not horribly in the red, but i don't have a title in hand so a private transaction with the mods intact would be tricky.

potentially on the market shortly...
AST 4100's, freshly re-built front struts. Not just re-freshed, but taken apart by AST and re-done. Rear re-freshed, not so thoroughly worked on.

vorshlag camber plates

swift ~800 lb springs, 2.5id 9", hypercoil 2.5id 8" 650's, hypercoil 60mm id 7" 550's

M3 Strut tower bar

Hotchkis front sway

E93 Front Sway

AR catted downpipes (N54), on a texas car for 3,000 miles, never made it onto my car

Offset bushing control arms

Poly bushings for the tension arms, also a new set of tension arms

Berk Technology resonated midpipes

Berk Technology race muffler delete, with balancer tube (so no french horn)

Apex ARC-8's, 18x9 et 42, 18x9.5 et 63, could come with current dunlop star specs of 5/32 tread depth, 255 fronts, 275 rear, both fit with no autocross rub with the right camber, no roll was needed. I also have other 275 dunlops with 7/32 tread. tpms and bmw center caps are the current setup.

maybe?? h&r sport cup kit - separate moderate drop h&r sport springs

I have the OS Giken LSD, TCD version.
There are two part numbers for the e92 as follows:

BM531-HA - Superlock
BM531-HC - TCD

I am not sure if these will interchange for the 1 series.

When i bought the LSD, they don't list a 1 series entry on the website but it was one series compatible. HPautowerks sourced it for me to ensure compatibility, but it was a superlock. Is there a newer source of info for the part numbers than the website? Or is it in a different part of the website?

I contacted OS Giken in the US to get the part numbers..this was last year

I purchased mine through Spruell Motorsports. I would be curious to see if they are interchangeable between the 1 and 3 series.

Doesnt the box it came in have the part number on it?..mine did

If you mean TCD vs Superlock..the TCD has machine oil channel and holes on each clutch that actually turn the diff into an oil pump circulating oil throughout the diff. The channels also retain oil when the diff is not turning..All this promotes quiter and cooler operation. The Superlock doesnt have these oil passages
