bmw 320i help

hi guys i am new to this forum. Im from sydney Australia. I recently purchased the 320i e90 2011 sedan and realised its lacking power. i should of chosen the 320d or the 323i for an extra 3k. Anyway i cant now and i am finding some solutions. I want to ask is the bmw performance power kit available for the 320i base model sedan? if so then how much is it? and will the exhaust sound louder and cooler after installation? thanks alot.

It's a NA 2.0L 4cyl so short answer, nope. Naturally aspirated cars are straight out not tuneable, the only way to get noticeable power is to stroke out your engine to a bigger capacity (which would be ridiculous). There isn't such a thing as a 'performance power kit' for the 320i. That's only available on the x35i cars.

You can make your car sound cooler with an intake and performance exhaust, but they will give your car ZERO gains in terms of power (if not losses).

okay so only 335i has the power kit in the 3 series range? i thought they also have it for the 320D but that site was from malaysia so im not sure if they have it here in aus. Okay so if just want it to sound cooler, does the local bmw dealers have the performance exhaust upgrade for the 320i? i dont want to do it at some random after markets cos maybe it will affect my warranty?

The 320d and 335i have performance upgrades due to the fact that they are both turbocharged. Turbo engines are extremely easy to tune in terms of adding power. A naturally aspirated engine like in the 320i is a different story.

I wouldn't go to the BMW dealer for the exhaust because they will charge you a shitload. You can order one from the US (it's an original BMW accessory, not aftermarket) for much cheaper. I'll let one of the 320i boys chime in about this, they've all got the performance exhausts.

That, or look up BMR Autowerkes on facebook and they can give you a quote on the exhaust. They're a great bunch that have been on this forum for ages.

It's an OEM BMW part so it won't affect your warranty at all. Unless something is very wrong with the install (which is HIGHLY unlikely since the 320i exhaust a very simple bolt-on job) everything should be fine.

Again, for the install you should try BMR Autowerkes. Easy job, and they won't charge you much at all for it.

No problem

You'll find that (mostly) this place is an extremely useful resource. You should come to one of the meets and inspect some of the 320i's we have around and decide what you want from there

Here's one of our members (from BMR Autowerkes):

Oh hi there! Welcome!

You chose the wrong car.

It's ok. I did too

Perfomance wise the car has SFA to give, but for more fun and enjoyment I added on BMW Performance exhaust and a hectic K&N filter. They have considerably improved my enjoyment of the car as well as the sounds. You get a deeper low end, change in engine tone at 4500rpm and a much more aggressive top end compared to stock. Sounds decent for a 4 banger, but still doesn't go anywhere in a hurry. Come to a meet some time and you can have a listen. Even if these mods result in power losses, the car is so slow that any side effects will be negligible and irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Meetups happen quite regularly, so just keep your eye on on the forum here.

As for the exhaust, I believe it's an axleback + muffler for the 320i (am I right Suj?) and cost wise I'll have to leave it to the BMR guys to answer.

Yes to the spoiler and mirror caps, they can get you anything that will fit on a BMW

BMR's competitors Ahmeds Turbo's located in Auburn can actually do you a great package to twin turbo your car. BMW approved work so warranty cover is not in jeopardy. Call Ahmed's cousin Hamid to get a great deal and more info about power gains. From what i heard you'll be achieving 1/4 miles in 11.5 seconds.

I can testify to the Pod air filter. I just put on a six inch cone filter that had a 76mm inlet, needed to work it a little to get it to fit he 80mm inlet but wasn't too hard. As mentioned in another post I took the advice and left off the bottom of the air box. It took well under 10 minutes and the note is dramatically lower than before and louder even with stock exhaust. Picked up the pod filter for under $30.00 cheapest mod ever and a must do. Only draw back is car now sounds fasters than what it is.

No affiliation that i know of, if anything it's a long shot but it may be possible that owners could be cousins...
