I don't think they'd design two systems either, I'm sure they're all using compressed air for lumbar. Try playing with your lumbar support and listen to it.

When you extend it forward, you can feel it build a bubble in the lower back and it sounds like a small air compressor is running. Then when you extend the lumbar backwards it sounds like a valve is releasing air.

As far as I can tell, when you move the lumbar up or down, it then inflates and deflates a higher or lower bubble in the lower back area.

For me, the lower and upper bubbles in the lumbar support are controlled by the 4-way switch on the front corner of the seat.

Then the side bolsters (or whatever they are called) are controlled by a separate 2-way switch next to the lumbar switch.

Yea, that's what mine is too. I thought they were all like this.

I really like the adjustable side bolsters. Probably the best upgrade on the e46 yet... well you know, aside from the turbos and all.
