What is the HP potential of the 335I before building block?

Does anyone know how much HP the 335I engine can handle before having to build the engine? Is this engine pretty stout? Also what is the highest HP achieved on a 335I so far?

If i had to guess, i think this car might be able to handle around 500rwhp....before u have to start building the internals...

That is plenty of HP for our traction to handle...

BMW and Alpina have blown up plenty of N54s. Alpina makes 360HP from the N54, but they had to use MAHLE pistons to handle the extra ~7lbs of boost.

i didnt know alpina had blown motors... nice to know. But they only make 360hp?
if thats 360bhp then with a Procede/xede the car should be at its max potential without killing itself.

ya 500whp is too much hope. I would think ~400bhp would be the most the motor could with stand without pissin oil.

The N54 has a forged steel crankshaft. Almost all BMW connecting rods are forged steel.

Not sure about the pistons but I am hoping that it's forged especially since it's direct injection and turbocharged.

In my opinion I think the weakest link is the block. I believe BMW should have made it cast iron so that it can absorb the high forces produced by the crankshaft (combustion pressure and high rpms).

The engine can make more power but the small turbos gotta go. Unfortunately the turbines are integrated with the manifold and that's just going to be a very expensive upgrade.

Im not smoking crack rock, and you have no proof that the 335's engine CANNOT handle 500rwhp...although that number seems optimistic, it's not hard to obtain given today's technology and advance tuning...

The stock turbos need to be upgraded soon after 400hp to increase their flow and still keep the low OE type of boost figures not to stress the engine too much. With enhanced breathing there shouldn't be any problems with engine internals. I don't see what 500whp would break in the engine.

Well my e46 m3 held the AA stg3+, and a 150 wet shot of nitrous for a stout 650rwhp, so if that motor on stock internals can do it, then why cant the 335? Oh, cause the ///M division builds with better parts?

to answer your questions, people run low boost 600whp single turbo kits all day long with zero problems on these cars. the early 07-08 335i's came with numerous forged internals which include the crank, rods, and pistons straight from the factory. there are many threads on that if you search around. ive seen as much as 850 rwhp on stock internals that are still going strong.

Definitely not all day long. Not doing strong. You are talking about few brief seconds dyno glory time. They record the HP numbers and then tune it down and baby it on the way home. Let me take one on the track for 20-30 min long session and let's see what happens.

+1. 600ish plus or minus a little is a good place to stop. Also, pistons aren't forged.
