Used 2007 335i - Good deal?

I was offered this deal from a private seller in another state, so no taxes I believe. $40,000 - Is that a good deal? Also I know the warranty will transfer, but is there free maintenance and what not also?

2008 new MSRP is about 48K with the options shown. I have the same items in my 335 but with steptronic/paddles. With discounts about $1500, I think its a good deal. Taxes are usually paid at the time of registration in your state based on sales price (here in FL anyway)

I called the DMV and they said if I buy from a private party in another state (private party to private party) - I wouldn't pay tax - just the registration. Is this not correct?

Depends on your state.......in Texas, if you buy from private party in or out of state you will pay taxes when you register the car.

The deal looks good.....you will love the montego!!!

Ok I just confirmed I will not pay taxes on it in my state..

So it looks like 40k is a good deal on this car right? I shouldn't try to talk them down anymore?

Oops just saw your reply also akack - good to hear!

I just don't think I can beat the deal - they bought it for over 50 a few months ago and I'd be getting it for 40k and don't have to pay taxes on it.

Warranty & maintenance will transfer.

Everything is negotiable. Selling a one year old car is very difficult to do - most people can't get the financing, or can get better financing through the dealer, or will spend the extra for a new car, etc. so the seller is going to take a huge hit on it. Should you try for a lower price? Absolutely!

It would be a good idea to get the VIN and run a carfax on it, get a pre-purchase inspection, and have your local dealer review the service history to make sure that you're not buying a car with issues. A few hundred dollars spent now is money well spent, especially if it turns up something.

Otherwise, yes, it looks like you're getting a good deal on it.

Sound advice! I will be getting that information together before buying. Making sure it wasn't one of the ones on the boat that tipped

It's Black Dakota / Aluminum. Wish it had the popular gray trim but aluminum would be my second choice.

You don't pay taxes at the point of sale, but you will have to pay taxes in the state you register the car in. You pay at DMW when you are transfering the title into your name and registering it.

I think it's a buyer's market now with the 3 Series. According to what I've seen on this forum, people claim to be getting nearly 3k off list. If that's the case, I'd rather pay 5k more and get a new car, not someone tested out for a year. Move that price down to maybe 36.5 and make it a 9500 spread? Maybe, but if I had the 9500, I'd still prefer new.

The car is only 4 months old - so practically new. It's not worth it to buy new when all I get is 3000 miles off the odometer for an extra 10 grand.

well 3K of a new car is a steal and only works on very well equipped cars and with a desperate dealer :-)

My advise as a CA: get it! (after you figured out the reason why they are selling it since they would get that money from a dealer if they trade it in too, sounds weird...)
