AC Schnitzer LED shift knob

wtf??

"The red illuminated LCD screen on the top of the new shift knob displays the gear the vehicle is in up to sixth. The only connection to the vehicle are the wires for 12V power, so the LCD shift knob uses an accelerometer to determine in what gear it is sitting, up to sixth. AC Schnitzer hasn't released any information as to whether the shifter would automatically calibrate or have to be programmed before use, nor has it released any pricing information." -CNET

If you need a display to tell you what gear you're in then maybe............... you should stick with an AUTOMATIC.

I'm thinking at least $450 since it's ACS.

How will an accelerometer accurately determine what gear you are in? That doesn't make any sense. Plus to be honest it looks like something that belongs in a 2001 Honda Civic EX...

I don't know how that is possible for me since more likely my hands would cover the numbers so I couldn't see the neat looking light.

Its possible. Just measure forward acceleration of the vehicle and compare against the acceleration of the shifter as the driver changes gears. There might be an issue if you try to start out in 2nd gear though..

Yea I dunno about the LED thing, but the knob itself doesn't look bad.
