I have a HUGE oil leak

Huge oil leak resulting from a cracked valve cover. Dealer quoted me $1390 for the job, can this job be done well at a local shop or should I have it done at the dealership?

Yes, any shop could do this cheaper. Also, I have seen a DIY around here, just in case you want to try it by yourself and save some $$

Damn. Hope all works out. I had a similar issue. I had a huge leak due to my oil pan gasket and was quoted 1200. Found a local shop to do the work for $600.

how hard is it to DIY oil pans? I read its a lot of work? In my past cars, it was so easily a caveman can do it.

it is a big deal in modern BMW's - it actually goes around the front axle or something similar. When they replaced mine, under warranty, they had to remove the front axle and put back - it was a big job.
