I agree, or even give us a significant discount on something additional. I'd be willing to toss in some more money for something else if it was a very good discount.

Lets hope it's true that Harold said that and not just smoke being blown up our you know what.

Harold does seem like a righteous dude and I hold no ill will towards him on this matter after all this time.

Also, I still have no idea when the ETA is on the coils and what is the remote cable adjustment? I bought the rear extension bar so I can adjust them without removing the trim, is that what you mean?

Yes, I meant the rear extension bar....How much was that? Re-read my earlier note...It was my suggestion to Harold to ask AST for some type of discount for making us wait all this time. I plan to write a letter to AST Corporate in the Netherlands explaining how disappointing it has been waiting this long with so many empty promises....

I think they were about $50 for the extenders, give or take but I can't really remember.

Just spoke with Stewart from AST and found out the 4100's are built and on a pallet in transit to the US! I also planted a bug in his ear about trying to do something for the folks that have been waiting since November for these. Let me know when you guys get them. Can't wait!

There is no way I'm getting my hopes up until I have a tracking number and the parts are verified on the way to my house!

But either way, thanks for the update MJR.

Niceeee.. So I typically want to tackle jobs like this on my own for the experience. But I found a great local mechanic who said they'll only charge me the actual time to do the install and I can watch/help and they have no problem.

So I have a few questions:

1.) You guys doing this job on your own or going to a shop?
2.) Are you buying any new OEM parts for front suspension like the hat or bump stops??
3.) How long are you going to drive the car and let it settle before getting an alignment?
4.) Will our alignment specs change due to a slight lowering or should we still use the xi specs?
5.) What do you plan on setting the damper settings too, even between the front and back or slightly biased one way or another(I know this is going to probably be trial and error but I thought I'd ask)?

Ok, now I can finally allow myself to start getting excited after 3.5 months!

Here is my plan. I have no idea. I am going to have Cobb do the install. They are pretty cheap actually and also said I could watch/participate. They have a ton of experience with Vorshlag and AST -they used to all share space here in Plano. I think I read the camber settings should be -2 front/ -3 rear, but I will have to confirm that. Other than that, I was planning on deferring to the experts. Curious what your thoughts are.

I discussed corner balancing with them, but decided at my level it is not yet necessary. But cob will be doing the alignment as well.

aside from the height, these are just 1 way adjustable, correct?? I couldnt find any info on ast's website.

EDIT: nevermind, www.ast-suspension.com vs www.ast-usa.com. They only have these on the usa site. Confused me for a bit.

Yea, they're one way adjustable. For the price some people may think they should be 2 way like the KW3. But for 99% of people the one way is much easier and a better way to fine tune the car.

I went 400/800 which is a bit higher than most. That is what the guys at vorshlag suggested. I do plan on tracking the car 3-5 times /yr.

I just changed to 400/low 700. I've read the 400 up front feels stock but some said the 800 rear is a little stiffy. And I figured we also have a slightly stiffer rear sway to begin with at 15mm.

Lucky you tsx only having to wait a few weeks!

Sal, I've never really looked into spring rates hardcore till now but from what I learned is if you make the rear too stiff then you'll induce too much oversteer.

Oversteer can be good to an extent if on the track but on real world roads it can be a little more dangerous because it can cause a spinout. I am looking for very very slight understeer and that is why I'm not going to make the rear too stiff with an 800lb spring rate.

If you already have the m3 rear sway I wouldn't go to high of a spring rate (over 800) because the 20mm m3 sway.

But like I said, I've installed suspensions before but this is my first time with determining spring rates so I'm learning.

I have no clue either. I just went with what the guy at vorshlag suggested. They had 2 recommended setups- GT and GTS. I went with the less racy version- the GT. From their site-

  • 2 Front 60mm HYPERCO Coilover Springs, 178mm (7") Long
  • 2 Rear 2.5" SWIFT Coilover Springs, 228mm (9") Long
  • AST 2.5" Rear Ride Height Adjusters
  • 2 Rubber Rear Spring Alignment Platforms
  • Vorshlag's GT package is 7" x 450 #/in Front / 9" x 140 N/mm (798 #/in) Rear
  • Vorshlag's GTS package is 7" x 600 #/in Front / 9" x 160 N/mm (912 #/in) Rear
  • We stock Hyperco 7" (front) springs in 450 and 600 #/in rates, other rates can be special ordered.

Install / alignment is scheduled for Tuesday at Cobb.
