New Alpina uses a twin turbo N55... direct swap?

New Alpina B3 biturbo uses an N55 engine with a special twin turbo setup made by Alpina. Can anyone source Alpina parts? Perhaps this is the cheapest turbo upgrade for the N55 yet!

Certainly going to be more expensive than the upgraded singles that are due out soon. Even if you could source these, I imagine the cost would make your eyes water.

cheapest turbo upgrade? are you crazy? do you know how much work it would take; that's not even considering all the extra parts and fabrications that is needed.

That's an N54, at least in the picture.

The oil filler cap looks different like where the N55 one is. The n54 seems to be much higher up.

Alpina parts are nearly impossible to get if you are not owner of one...

And the costs... big $$$

"It says Bi-Turbo, when the BMW 3-Series only has single turbo petrol engines these days.

Good spot. And totally bang on. The Alpina B3 does indeed sport a twin-turbo engine - the older 3.0-litre straight six that used to underpin the 335i until BMW decided it could do the job with a single turbo (which they call, somewhat mischievously, the Twinpower turbo). The trouble is BMW no longer makes that engine, so Alpina has got hold of the tooling for it and is now making it themselves. In tuning circles, this is called going the extra mile.

So why do they bother?

Because they're German and believe that if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing right."

The B3 has valvetronic, proof positive that it is an N55. There is no way they retrofitted that to the N54. I think Top Gear got it partially right in that Alpina probably is still producing the turbos that used to go on the N54.

Holy fuck, it absolutely has two turbos. The debate is N54 vs. N55 based.

Its a N55 with 2 turbos

Wasn't that difficult...

BMW probebly had some turbos laying around...

Some good engineering from Alpina to combine those elements!

Will be $$$$ for sure...
