What dealer in NI Chris?

JKC have a Java Green M3 in the showroom now, bit too OTT for me but very striking at the same time.

Is there a difference between the dct in my 335 and the M3?
Only subtle. In the 335i the dct allows you to creep in traffic when you release the foot brake (like an auto) In the M3 it remains stationary, until you squirt the gas pedal. I find this annoying in traffic.

In the M3 you have more settings to control the gear change ferocity

Have you gone for EDC?

No EDC. The 2nd hand one I was looking at did but I didn't think it was worth the extra money.

TBH with you BT apart from the DCT it's the next best option you can get for the M3. Granted you might never need the EDC track setting, the comfort mode transforms the car into GT cruiser.

If you went for the Comp Pack. Although it costs £3.5k you will save £1200 on the 19" polished wheels. Just a thought.

Yes the comp pack was the way forward but I aren't too fussed on the comp alloys and prefer the 19's. Also the 19's were included as standard on the deal, along with heated leather and media. I also just want to get in and drive the thing, can't be arsed with all the fidding about. Cheers for the heads up though. The car I test deove had EDC and I didn't think I'd use it that much.

You only have to give the lightest tap to get the M3 into "creep" mode plus you can put it into second for a faster "creep".
I think the DCT is an incredible system...easy peasy when you want, yet incredibly focused when trying to 100% out of the car.

I know that. but in the 335i you just lifted off the brake. Better IMO

I like that the car doesn't creep forward without the brake pressed.

I think it has it's pros and cons. It's good when in traffic jams or wanting to creep the car into the garage but can catch you off guard sometimes.

bit late to this thread but since new my tyre use has been about 20k for fronts and 10k for rears, I'm on 36k and they've all about 4mm left.

so call it £1200 every 15k, works out at 8p a mile

With above tyre wear I usually average around 20-21mpg on the computer, never checked how accurate it is though

I tried one back in 2010, as even though I prefer manual gearboxes, I still wanted to confirm I was making the right decision. What you mention above (plus the issues with lag, now mostly resolved) put me off as I found the DCT a little ponderous when performing 3 point turns for example and a bit fiddly with the creep function when manouvering in tight spaces. I reckon though you'd get use to the latter but I didn't find it gave me the control or confidence I wanted. Full throttle upshifts were a lot of fun though and the 7th gear helps a little with fuel economy but I also found the drone as stated in the owner's manual at 2k RPM was more noticeable at motorways speeds in the DCT because I was around 2k whereas the 6sp manual is at higher revs.

Whichever model you go for, it'll be awesome and options are just options.

No drone from mine at any speed. In fact it too quiet at any speed. although my newer car is slightly louder than the 2010 I had.
