Help me decide!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma!
I need to decide between 18 or 19 inch wheels on my E90 The choices are: 18 inch MV3 18 inch Style 189 19 inch MV4 (Can you get 18 inch MV4?) 19 inch Style 235 I don't REALLY like the MV3 that much, I think the style 189 looks better then the MV3 but I REALLY like the look of the MV4 but the fact its 19 inch puts me off when I think of the cost of tyres but more importantly I wonder if it will ruin the ride of the car or the look of the car with mahoosive wheels and stock disc/calipers etc. Don't want it looking stupid!

Which 18's do you have? You would rather have 19's then?

The MV3's seem very common (as in around alot) lol
The trouble is I just dont think they look very good and I cant find anything else in 18" that attracts me as much as the MV4 but then that is a 19 and im a little unsure about going 19"

Think the MV3 is standard figment on the e90 m sport saloon anyway hence why they are common. I'm not too sure about the MV4 either. Personally I love the CSL 19" style wheels. I doubt ride wise there's much between 18 & 19" (non rft). The 19"s fill the arches much nicer and if you do some hunting around for tyre prices I doubt there's a huge amount in that either

Well I just got another option....
18 inch CSL Seen these.... http://www.supersportwheels.co.uk/sh...id_product=241 Question I have is does anyone have experience of these guys? I just spoke to him on the phone, seems like a nice guy, says the CSL's are original and NEW, not refurbed! When I asked how he can sell so cheap as NEW and not refurb he says they buy direct from Germany.... I'm a little skeptical..... Thoughts?

Now they look very, very nice. I'm sure they are reps at that price BUT I bet you have them on the car for a few weeks before regretting going for the 19's lol.
I'm sure someone who is in the know will be along soon to give more knowledgable input on these wheels mate. |

From the ad - ■Set of4X18 Inch BMW CSL Alloy Wheels ■Limited Edition finished in Matt Black ■Brand New ■REAR 18//9J FRONT 18/8J ■Please Note: REAR WHEEL HAS A DEEPER DISH LOOKS MEAN ■Suitable for most 3 SERIES BMW including E46 M3 & E92 M3 No where in the ad does it mention what the offset of the wheels is. It states: Suitable for most 3 SERIES BMW including E46 M3 & E92 M3 which is clearly incorrect as both have completly different offsets to E90/91/92 cars. Have a look at what Mark @ Bmautosport has to offer: http://www.bmautosport.co.uk/showroo...93-c-51_23_122 a quick glance and I've noticed several NEW sets of CSL alloys at prices far cheaper than the site you've posted, and at the offsets stated are suitable for your car. |

I know it sounds silly to even ask because BMW to charge a fortune compared to the advertised price for the CSL's BUT even here he has sold a genuine set of CSL's, brand new for £850 (19 inch) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1108015426...#ht_500wt_1413 where as the wheels from Mark are clearly not OEM (the ones in the new section anyway)..

The Ebay ad above may well be for original CSL wheels, however the other link you posted direct to Supersportwheels own website advertises 18" CSL wheels,so no, I would suggest that those 18" wheels are not original, which is why I pointed you in the direction of Bmautosport. If it's OEM CSL wheels you require, the sizes are 8.5J X 19 ET44 front & 9.5J x 19 ET27 rear. For your E90 you'd require a 10 or 12mm spacer on the front, the rears would be fine. |

Standard vs. Non-Standard Wheels
Quite a few reasons I'd personally stay with 18" rims
1. BMW don't offer 19" wheels as standard options on the e90, whereas they do for the coupe. This then puts 19" rims into the non-standard category 2. I like the security of run flat tyres, but the ride would probably be slightly too firm with the lower sidewall 19s 3. I don't like paying lots of money for cosmetics without function. When 18" function better than 19 in terms of ride that becomes especially true. 4. I don't like paying extra insurance because the insurance companies classify 19" wheels as non standard (see 1 above) 5. I don't like paying a lot more for tyres for cosmetic reasons only 6. I'm not a great fan of spending money to replace perfectly good hardware that I've already paid for once (different from paying to delete one option in order to upgrade to a more expensive option) 7. I stop noticing something like wheels about 6 weeks after they're fitted, so value for money is really poor. 8. For the same money as a set of wheels I can have a lot, lot more fun ( a week touring in the Alps or Scotland, with some of Europe's finest roads, for example). A week worth of fun vs. some some mildly upgraded cosmetics that I hardly notice....no brainer in my case. |

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I would like to stick with OEM 18" wheels also but all I can find is MV3's! (and these http://www.bmautosport.co.uk/showroo...=51_23_122_119)

Agree with many of the comments above as to why you should stick with 18" BUT
19" wheels look much better than 18" the ride on non run flats is fine The ride on RFT 's is awful in my opinion Your choice |

I personally would go for 19"s. From experiencing both 18" and 19" I felt that it was only a marginally harder ride than 18"s.
Out of those the MV4's does it for me - maybe I'm biased though as my car has those as standard . I do remember seeing pictures of a E90 with MV4's on here somewhere. Might be worth doing a search to get an idea on what they'd look like on an E90! |

You have to think about the fact your car is an SE so I'm assuming it's standard SE suspension. If so 19s will look stupid unless you lower it. I also wouldn't get anything too gappy as it's never a good idea to draw attention to the milk bottle top brakes on a 320.
I'd look for some style 216 wheels. Classy and very rarely see them. |

The more detailed wheel designs look out of place on the SE, best sticking with the bolder more chunky designs that BMW offer from the factory.
IMO CSLs just look like barry-boy wheels! |

When you say chunkier do you mean the style 189 type design?

A bit out of left field here, but I find my 19"s a slightly softer ride than my 18"s, this is on Eibach prokit springs.
I run 19" 313s with Bridgestones RFT's in the summer and 18" MV3s Bridgestone RFT's in the winter. The reason I think, is because the 18"s need pumping up to a higher PSI than the 19"s. The 18"s feel like they have concrete tyres, so I'm looking forward to the summer for my spines sake. |
