Just got a price through Sytner Loughton. £145 for parts, £40+vat each cover to paint. They are calling BMW UK as they seem to thing I might be covered as its such a known problem. Fingers crossed...

This is such a bad design fault something needs done.

Let's not forget it that you require headlamp washers to pass an MOT if you have xenon headlamps.

This would mean your car is unroadworthy without them and this becomes a safety issue.

I wonder what it takes to get Vosa to carry force a vehicle recall?

Haha it's such a low spec it hasnt got them.

Still waiting to hear back from Sytner if BMW will honour this or not. I'm not gonna hold my breath. Even a good will gesture of 50/50 would be ok.

There's one other option. I bought my car from a Renault dealer in Pontefract (Haretts) and it did come with a 3 month warranty. This is an 'in house' warranty with no underwriter as such, just whatever they agree to. If I get no joy with Sytner then my only option is to call them. Again, they will try to wriggle I can guarantee on the grounds its a bodywork part/could have been nicked etc etc etc......

Just really pisses me off this does. I know its not gonna cost me a fortune, but what with the damage a few weeks ago, the Vectra blowing and now this I am constantly shelling out, and shouldnt be. Especially is BMW accept this is a known common problem. It's just not on.

Don't laugh too much at me but could this not be solved with some silicone and lock wire.

I'm in no way familiar with the set up but at the prices being quoted I would be doing all I could to keep the covers at least attached. In fact tie one end to the covers and the other end to your balls.

BMW PART NUMBER 61 67 7 179 311

I got a pair from eBay from lr4x4spares for £20 - only bidder in auction

It is a bumper off job for the 335i.
NS can be fiddled out from inner arch removal, but no chance on the OS due to oil cooler in the way.
I would try inner arch removal first and take a look - front lower liner is only a few 8mm bolts.

You need to extract them from the back by pushing in the two barbed plastic clips, one each side.

The water hoses connec to elbows at the back with a push on O ringed fitting that has a retaining clip (pushes off).

Tricky to do blind and tbh it's only another 15min to remove the bumper and much easier.

Allow 2hrs if you haven't done this before, but its a DIY job scoring 2/5 and no special tools.

Steve

If you don't want it to happen again in the cold weather, just pull the headlight washer fuse.

Or the slightly more expensive fix of using a high concentration of BMW washer fluid.

Fuse number 48 on my E91, behind the glove box.

Just fired off an e-mail to the place where I bought my car from (including pictures and an invoice), so fingers crossed it gets done under warranty. I can't think why it wouldnt be to be honest, as when I bought the car they said it has a no quibble 3 months warranty which they honour.

fingers crossed.
