What type of plastic is the Valve cover made of?

I'm replacing a valve cover on one of my E90s. I broke off a little vent valve piece on the inside.

Does anyone know what material the valve covers are made from? So I can match the plastic when I plastic weld it.

buy a new set of what exactly? Its part of the valve cover and there's no need to buy a new valve cover when this can be easily repaired.

OP, are you talking about the plastic ENGINE cover with the oil filler cap on it? That's not really a "valve cover", which is usually seen only on pushrod engines. As for repairing it, I'd try JB Weld, which is a 2-part epoxy-type adhesive. Short of that, you might want to inquire at your local dealer's service dept. and see if they have anything that can repair that material.

I'm talking about the "cylinder head cover"
the actual valve cover.. not the plastic plate you see over top of it.
on the 2007+ they're made out of a plastic instead of aluminium (some previous ones were made out of alum) When you take the valve cover off you can see both cams.

On the inside of the cover, there are 2 vents. These vents release crank case pressure, and have 1way check valves.

I broke one off while removing the valve cover. I ended up studying it and tried JB weld last night. The only thing I Was worried about was how JB weld will hold upto hot oil.

I was going to bring it to a shop and have them plastic weld it.. but really, the JB weld should do the trick.

Yes, it should hold ok - from what I understand, you can actually patch an engine block/cylinder head crack with that stuff as long as you clean and prepare the surfaces as best you can and mix the stuff proportionately. It's worked well for me when my son and I were fixing up his old Honda and Acura drive-to-school cars.

Are you replacing your valve cover gasket and trying to reuse your old valve cover? If so, replace the entire cover with a new oem one instead. It comes with the gasket and all new bolts.

Clean everything really good with some sort of solvent, and then use JB weld....it will be fine, don't worry about it

Or spend $400 for a new valve cover...up to you.

If it was me, I would JB weld it...and call it good.

You can't clean the clogged pcv ports in the cover unfortunately, which is why it's recommended to get a new cover (besides that the covers often break or are cracked).

This is not n54 VC and what they are talking about.

It's about £70 on ebay, new. (valve cover and gasket set)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223109955756

$400 or approximately £300+ is a complete rip off for a piece of plastic.

Depends on what your time is worth - folks have left feedback here trying to save a buck with off-brand covers and gaskets and often results in double work and they end up buying oem in the end anyways. Not worth it.
