I have to be honest, when the first few photos of the 1 series started surfacing I did think it was awkward looking and called it ugly.

Now, I must say that my opinion has changed and when I look at it now IMO it really resembles an e46. It looks like what the 3 series would have evolved to if BMW had continued with the e46 look, especially from the front. I might be wrong but this is what I see when I look at it. And since I am a fan of the e46, I can not continue to call the car ugly. I think it looks very nice. It is a little too small for me but it is not a bad looking car.

Agreed. It's very similar in design to the e46 (believe it or not guys). Compare the two with similar angles and you'll undoubtedly find similar styling elements. The thing is, I don't think the design transitioned over to the flame surfacing style very well. What's good is that it is without a doubt BMW looking. At least it retains its brand identity through its lines.

front end soooo ugly - but then everyone already knows that. side and reaar is not too bad, small, but ok.. but once u start looking at the front, its just a big turn off.. and i thought E90 front was bad :/

E90 = design grew on me.
E92 and E93 = I liked right off the bat.
1er = has grown on me. I like it!

Agree with you!

When the E46 first came out in 99' or late 98', I thought it was ugly as well...As time goes the looks just gets better!

Absolutely! e46 MY2002 Sedan (Say 330xi) is the BEST looking BMW IHMO. Such a classic design....

are you serious man?

the only reason it's in the 6 and the 1 is because BMW couldn't fit a real cup holder that folds into the dash or is in any way integrated into the interior.

this kind of cupholder gets in the way and i remember my friend saying that when passengers sit in her six, its really annoying cuz they always gotta watch their knees.

enjoy the seamlessly integrated cupholder that can fit different sized cups you already have!

i think it looks great..... not surprised of the responses in here though..... go to e46fanatics.com and post pics of the e90 and most people there will say its fugly... and generally side by side the e46 absolutely destroys the e90 in looks. but the performance of the e90 (335) definetely makes up for it. i would definetely take a e46 330 over an e90 330 any day of the week though.

that's just my opinion. i do like the e90 and the 1 series, but i feel that the e46 is just a better design than both of them combined. especially the headlights which were straight and "mean" looking in the e46 compared to the slanted headlight look of the e90 and 1 series.

hopefully this slanted Toyota headlight trend will end soon and mean lookin bimmers will make a comeback. unfortunately BMW is selling more than ever so it just means more people like this trend. but whatever, the glory days are over. used market still exists.

That's funny cuz I see it totally opposite. The E46 looks wayyyy softer IMO and the whole front of the E90 just looks a little mad to me.

Its the back and the side of the E90 I have the biggest issues with. Where the E46 is more streamlined, and both classier and sportier in back, the E90 just looks.... for the sake of not getting flamed let's just say I don't like it as much as the E90.
