Yup, I figure it was the K&N as well. I will be grabbing the CRC cleaner and K&N cleaner/oil tomorrow morning. I'll be swapping in my paper filter (stock) as my warranty runs out next month, so I'm having them replace everything.

330i 58k miles, K&N drop in, secondarycat/muffler delete, pbx on map 3, stock wheels/tire sizing (changed to eagle 1 asymmetric though)

Oops I used the 14 gallons method; there is indeed 16 gallons in a full tank.

Town driving : 19.4 mpg
Mixed : 25.6 mpg
Hwy driving : 31-36 mpg (depending if I cruise at 65 mph or 75)

all of you guys say 16 gallon tank but do all of you really use down to the last drop.

last 2 gallons i believe is the reserve where the light comes on... so in fact you should calculate with 14 gallons since the last two you aren't really using it.

but all of you guys are right IF you are riding your car down to the last drop.

MAXIMUSJ how in the world are you getting 33 - 37 mpg on HWY or even 31 - 36 mpg???!!! do you live somewhere that is totally flat?

We dont use it but still take it into account for the total miles per fill; like the computer does.

And I dont live in a totally flat region, but its not hill climbing either.

Its not really a magic trick if you want to achieve good MPG. Shift no higher then 4k and downshift when you're under 2k and see where it takes you.

I also maintain my car more often then required, but this is not getting me better MPG; this is preventing my MPG from going bad tho.

heh, I'm currently getting around 380 miles per fill up (with AA tune) and am complaining because I used to get 410-420 when I just had the PBX. I guess I should feel lucky haha.

The gas tank is more than 16 gallons. If you drain to until it hits the 0 mark on the gas gauge that's 16 gallons but it will swing below 0. I've filled 16.7 gallons once. Must have been close to running out of gas. I think the actually capacity is 17 gallons.

OK guys, I have cleaned the MAF and want to double check some things.

1. The MAF did not look dirty, but I sprayed it several times with CRC MAF cleaner. Was I supposed to physically touch anything? Because I didn't - I just sprayed.
2. Upon starting the car for the first time, it idled very high. 1000 rpm, lowered to 900, lowered to 800, then after about 30 seconds of being on, it dropped back down to 400-500 like usual.
3. I turned it off and started it again - this time it idled at 750rpm for about 15 seconds before I turned it off and had to leave.

Did I mess up, and/or are these reactions normal? I haven't had the chance to drive it, nor will I for a bit... I haven't slept in about 24 hours and really need to retire for a bit.

Mine didnt look dirty either, and yes just spray and dont touch a thing...and your describing the revs like a cold start...was it cold? cause usually when i did mine it started and went to normal idle level of what around 650? i dont remember off hand...i dont think its anything to be worried about at all tho, as long as it was a smooth idle your good.

My startups usually never sit higher than the normal ~500 rpm's, even cold. There was also a ticking noise from the engine with the hood open and my head in it, but I'm probably just paranoid.

Idles smooth judging from the 1 minute I had it on... I'll let you guys know how it goes once I get driving.

Update: The car feels like new. It's pulling a lot harder and revs much easier now. I can only assume gas mileage will also increase. I'll be cleaning that sucker every 3 months now...

meh clean it yearly if you have to.... messing with it to much, can spell problems for u. Id say clean it when you you would normally change your air filter.

thought the car calculated by the fuel injected and the distance covered.

i believe the range calculation is what you are referring to but doesnt that also factor in the same variables as well?

either way its good that OP got it straightened out now. this thread kind of made me want to clean mine out to see what i may get even though i did have two bad MAF experience(S) with mercedes. really hurts your wallet when one goes wrong.
