Do aftermarket engine parts void Wastegate & HPFP warranties?
Have had my new 09' sedan for about a week and half now and have been reading about tuning ect... Seems like the steps to perfection start with a tune, followed by the parts needed to run a stage 2. Will intake, FMIC, exhaust void any off the recognized BMW warranties related to the lawsuits around the Fuel Pump & Wastegate?

If the dealer wants to they can. Just remove them before servicing and warranty and you will have a better chance of them completing the work.

This post should be a sticky for anyone with a "will mod x void my warranty" question. There's nothing else that needs to be said IMO.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
135pats I agree. Had to ask with the extensive experience on these boards with tuned n54, 55's and the 2 bmw addressed extended warranty problems. Figured someone has taken their car in and had BMW give them a hard time.

Just had this convo with my SA. He said as long as they cant relate the problem you are attempting to service to the Aftermarket part then your fine. If they do find that the part caused or possibly cause the problem that only that area of the car is voided.
Ex: downpipes and 02 sensors going. 02 sensors would not be covered.

From my dealer point of view :
Intake, exhaust are no biggie and they don't care at all FMIC is a grey zone and shouldnt affect but if its a boost leak or something they might or might not cover it Downpipe, chargepipe with BOV are NO NO on the warranty Tune is not a problem unless it caused the issue (but I still remove my cobb everytime). Speak with your dealer its the best way to know all dealer are different. You definetely dont want your vin to be blacklisted.

Realistically the Dealer can void it for what ever they want. The words "OR POSSIBLY CAUSED THE PROBLEM" means they can make up whatever story to not have it covered and or void your warranty. If I was you and you ran into a big issue just make sure you convert it back to stock, just to be safe. If its for maintenance related issues you shouldnt have anything to worry about. Just set your tune to "stock map" which most tunes have. For example the JB4 stock map is map 0. Hope this helps

Yeah, I'm getting the Cobb, then intakes, then FMIC so I think I'll be safe for now.

I had my wastgates replaced recently at 81k miles under warranty. I uninstalled my cobb tune as a precaution. I called my SA and asked if an DCIntake, and (forge) DV's would be a problem, or if i should take them off, and he said its not related to this issue so it's fine to leave them on. Realistically, they can choose to make up anything if they don't want to work with you, so as a precaution, remove your tune for sure, and anything else that isn't a PIA, unless your cool with your SA.

Jeez! they cannot void your warranty unless the aftermarket part was the root cause of the failure. Yes, dealers will say this hoping you walk away. FYI...I leave mine on when I go to the dealer. GL
