Coding disaster - with a twist...

So, having had my NAV fail recently - with the Please Insert Disc message, I booked the 335 into Vines under the AUC to have the CCC replaced after they'd diagnosed the issue...

Part arrived, and the car was left today to have the new CCC fitted and coded, then the call no-one wants to receive "sorry to say, the programming crashed near the end, and it's fried the new CCC, we're going to have to get you another one!" So 3-5 days for a another replacement part, another day's worth of coding

Seems it can all go wrong even without a dodgy ebay cable

Can't understand a few things. If its just the DVD drive it won't need coding.

Also, if the disk used was the same as before it shouldn't have updated, installed anything so I don't see how it's crashed?

Unless its getting late and I'm barking up the wrong tree?

It's the way BMW do it. They spent 8 hours coding the new radio to my mrs car when they are straight swap items! Even for the CCC, if it's a like for like swap, all you have to do is program the CCC with the VO from the CAS. Takes about 3 minutes if that with NCS! The dealers don't seem to be able to do that though so instead they have to reprogram the entire car. Mental!

But there's nothing to be done at all if your just swapping the drive...

Just take old out, plug new in... And voila.

Sounds like they screwed something more serious up and are buying time with a bullshit excuse.

BMW won't swap the drive. They'll just swap the entire unit which comes as one part number.

Fook! Even though you can buy the drive separate? Must be costing a fortune!

If I am not wrong, then they have to update the whole module and related modules.

Lets say if it has gone with CCC problem and new hardware is there, they will install new hardware.
Write VIN of the car into it and then they will update CCC module.
Now a days they are using insta to update / diagnose which can take time.

Insta? You mean ISTA/P?!

Technically it's boat loads faster than what we mere mortals use as they use the fibre optic MOST bus instead of the OBD CAN bus. The difference is that BMW will flash the new module to the same software as the rest of the car, either that or flash the entire car to the same revision (date) as the new module. They don't need to, but they do.

How on earth I mixed inpa with ista and made new version insta

Spot on mate. And actually they do the later one. They update whole car which can take sometime.
I have recently updated few modules of my cars and those modules were quick.
Worst culprits are CIC /CCC, FRM and CAS. They take ages.

Haha, yeah I guess I could. It's all talk though mate, you plug the ABC into the XYZ and your balls flash, etc!

Speaking of eastern meets, and I know it's a bit OT, but where are they usually held?
