631 is a poor choice. it is designed for interior use.
751, on the other hand, will work fine i think.

"751 very good cutting and application characteristics with polyacrylic permanent adhesive." You might as well go get that Walmart spray paint. |

Guys, I spoke to my supplier. Here is the deal:
631 is NOT acceptable for this application PERIOD. The only options from Oracal are 751 and 970RA. I will be buying a matte black 50 yard x 48 inch roll of 751. The cost for this roll is $480.00. I will not be using the full 50 yards. So, if another member wants half the roll, they can pay me the cost of half the roll ($240.00) + a couple bucks for shipping, I will do it. I am not purchasing the 50 yard roll until someone sends payment for the other roll. If I end up shipping- heres the deal. I can measure 25 yards and give it to you, or you can wait until I finish my car, and I can give you the squeegees I used as well. I am located in South Florida, so if someone local wants it, then perfect. Let me know!!

You're right, ill get the rattle cans all stocked up. Where is your proof that 751 is a poor choice? Why did Oracal tell me to use 751 or 970? After all, the only difference is the technology and a laminate coat.

I personally know 100s of installers. If 751 was a good choice they would all be using it to wrap with and none of them will touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I'm a tool, the dude wrapped his car in plastic? Come on guys, you're all lemmings if you think wrapping a car in plastic is a smart idea. Jump off the bridge with me. This is a fad, it will be out of style soon.

Fantastic Job!
Props for DYI! Not many can do what you did. It takes talent.
However, there is a whole lot more that goes into that $3000 retail wrap than you might think. To do a job like what you have done using calendered film (3mil) instead of cast (2mil) is considerably cheaper. 3mil film will cost a sign shop about $1.50/linear yard. Then depending on the application, I would charge it out at $6.00/sqft installed. So judging on the amount of material you used, I would have charged $1800 to do the job you did, not $3000. For a job that would run around the 3k mark, there would be a full digital print, on a much higher grade material meant for wraps. Also the print would be laminated, incurring more cost. Now pay the designer and the shop overhead costs and $3000 is pretty cheap. I would do a job with your square foot coverage at about $3600, and it would be done in less than 1 business day, about 6 to 7 hours with one installer. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, just giving everyone here some food for thought. Again, you did a great job and I would hire you in an instant! |

To the OP:where did you get the rear adapter for your bike rack to fit the BMW aero bars from? I can't find one that will mate the Thule Echelon to the BMW aero kit without rattling. Thanks |

Looks great - very interested to see how it looks in a few months. May do this to my E30 since the paint really needs to be redone anyhow.
