spark plugs on a DIESEL:)

Just had my 320d msport serviced fron my local independant garage, after servicing it he attattached his laptop to reset all the service items on dash. But there know appears a spark plug symbol on the service menu on thr dash. as far as i know diesels do not have spark plugs and my car should not have this option in its software or is this someting to do with glow plugs, but the symbol is definitley a spark plug. My car has 82k on thr clock. any ideas

25000 miles to go, I wouldn't even worry yourself.

But glow plugs are not a serviceable item, and do not appear on the CBS. Maybe your indy has used some nasty diag equipment and messed woth the vehicle order?

Are you sure they aren't on the key?

Spark plugs on my car aren't on the CBS but they are a servicable item, they are done every 3 oil changes which works around every 60k.

I imagine the glowplugs are the same ...

Glowplugs are definitely not a service item, and don't have a "useful life". They should last for as long as the car - after all, they are only used on start-up, unlike spark plugs which spark (and therefore erode) all the time.

I'd go with JonnySi's diagnosis

Even faulty glowplugs won't show up as a user warning. Requires diagnostics/tests to identify the faulty item(s).

Thanks all.
I am giving the car back into my indy tomorrow, but the spark plug sign has never come up on the service info display in the dash before. its not on the key but shows when i go into the service info menu. He has serviced the car before and also services the wife's VW and is pretty good. When he hooks it up to his laptop there is no option to remove the spark plug sign. Also as a diesel car surely my car should not even be equiped to show this sign! Will see what he says tomorrow.

Can't you reset all the service items via the BC stalk? You definitely can using the iDrive, but you don't say if you have it or not.
