Cornering light fault

Typical, 2 days before my MOT I got a bulb fail warning up.

Right cornering light.

I tried it and sure enough the O/S one is not working.

So I remove the old H8 35W bulb on the O/S (bitch of a thing, cut fingers a plenty) and replace it, but it still says bulb fail and the thing ain't working.

Anyone had any problems with these particular lamps?

I had the same prob a couple months ago and went to the dealer (under warranty). They said it's not the bulb thats throwing the code but the module. Got the car back the following day and prob solved. Hope this helps.

Did you check the continuity of the old bulb? If this is OK, it would suggest the module

Cheers guys, yes I did check the bulb continuity straight away and it was ok.

I rechecked the connections too, no joy.

Which module do you mean? Headlight out job I assume?

Do you guys find it actaully helps?

Have seen these on VW Golf's and Mercs but didnt realise BMW had them too. (Never seen an e9x with them on the road.)

You will have seen them, you just can't tell.

On all LCI Bi-xenons, the inner two 'spot' lamps are either dummy lights if you don't have adaptives, or they are corner lights if you do have adaptives.

The main/dip beam is only ever the outer single xenon, unlike pre-LCI where the inner light was the halogen main beam.

But back to your question, now we live in the sticks with no street lighting, yes they are very useful, when you slow to turn left or right they light up direclty to the side the verge/footpath/potholes/dead badgers etc so you avoid things you might otherwise hit.

Cornering light malfunction

Did you find out which module it was? I'm having the same issue. Getting a cornering light malfunction.. but the h3 bulbs look OK.
This is on a 135... they should be the same.
Car is OOW so no go on going to dealer unless last resort.
This thing came up once or twice while in warranty but it came and went (never showed up on the dealers radar when mentioned). Now the warning is on all the time and the ring on startup is getting annoying.
Thanks.

malfunction

Thanks man! Look forward to hearing what you find. I'm planning to check out my H8 Bulbs and see if anything is wrong there. Also planning to look for a way to disable the the malfunction warning.

Yesterday night, I got the right cornering light malfunction, however when you click the warning it reads left corning light...

I am going to check the h3 bulbs... i hope its the bulbs... is there a way to turn them on without the need for cornering? Test purpose...

UPDATE: Nevermind... just tested the bulbs, turned the wheel all the way left, and all the way right...
its the bulb... ordering a pair of 4350k h3

Hmm... was the bulb obviously bad or how did you test to see if it was bad/good?

I have the exact same message on my dash and I have taken out the bulbs and looked at them... they looked fine... I've also checked to see if they light up while the warning is on and they do. Weird.

This.

I thought I was going mad, I'd definitely seen the warning change from one side to the other.

Do you mean click the warning in the I-drive?

I've not had chance to look for a few weeks, but my bulbs are OK and it still says 'right' fail.

Are you sure you've checked the right bulb? The cornering light bulbs on my car are H3 type. The H8 bulbs are for the angel eye DRL / side lights...

What H3? where?

There's only a H8 under the cover on the back of the turning lamp? I've got the cut and bleeding hands to prove it!!

Test instructions:
Turn on your engine
Move the steering wheel all the way to your left
Get out of the car and visually inspect that the cornerning light is on
Get back in your car and turn on the steering wheel all the way to your right
Get out of the car and visually inspect that the cornerning light is on

In my case, my passengers side did not turn on just the driver side.
Turned the engine off
Pop the hood
Took the bulb out and presto, the bulb appears fine but their is a hairline wire cut inside the bulb...

I am glad its the bulb and not the module

I've changed my H8 bulbs so that's how I knew they were for the drl. The H3 bulb shows on Real OEM headlights diagram....

Sorry to say but it looks like a headlight out job to get to those bulbs....

Yeah. The ones I looked at are accessible from the top of the headlight.

I'm going to take another look at them this weekend and see if I can find something I overlooked. When I tested them last time they both worked. I even swapped the bulbs from one side to the other. I hope its not that module.

I gotta take the car in for the battery connection recall soon so if I can't find it I'm sure the dealer will have something to say.

Mine Too

My 2009 e90 has the "cornering lights failure" warning come up about once a month and has done so since new. The cornering lights don't come on when the warning is present, and neither do the xenons adapt by refocussing as speed rises and falls. Shutting the ignition and lights off, then back on again doesn't fix it either, but then next day there's no problem. My dealer reset or reflashed the computer which they thought might fix it, but the warning still intermittently returned.

In 2010 I replaced the bulbs in the cornering lights as a mod to get all front end lights at 6000k. Still the problem persisted and does so today in 2013. My dealership doesn't want to know about it as they know the current bulbs are aftermarket, regardless of the fact it also did it with the original bulbs. I don't want to spend much money on it as it's only intermittent, but it is pretty annoying.
