Engine Malfunction Light Help

My "yellow" engine malfunction light came on today and power was cut drastically. The car still runs, but it rev's very slowly and accelerated to 0-60 in what feels like 20 seconds. I have also had continuous long starts when the car sits for several hours or overnight, but it starts right up when the car is warm. I don't know if these two conditions are related. Has anyone else had this light come on and have any ideas as to what the possible causes are? I am taking the car in tomorrow.

Long cranking sounds like a possible fuel pump. As for the limp mode, you could always pull over and restart and it should be back to normal. But if it keeps happening then something's up.

Any idea on how long you can drive under this condition before any harm it may cause to the engine?

Speaking of fuel pump...

Automotive industry gossip: The supplier of the "evil" fuel pump is Siemens VDO, and currently they have 30 engineers temporarily stationed in Munich (BMW) to fix this problem.

I restarted last night and it was fine and the light went out. Drove it all day today and the light never appeared again and the car was at full power. I am taking it in later in the week when I have time, but I assume you could drive it for as long as possible until the light comes back on. Has anyone actually experienced this light and had it diagnosed, or is it just your thinking that it is the fuel pump? Good thing I waited on the Vishnu chip so I can eliminate that portion of the equation in the trouble shooting. Can't wait for the install of the V2.0 when it comes out.

Man I had similar thing happend to me. Engine light on and Turbo went off... Restart the car and the light would be gone. I took the car to the dealer forth time already and here what they did

- Replace Fuel Pumps ( High-Pressure Fuel pump and one other fuel pump)
- Refresh the ECU twice
- Long Test Drive
- Inspect each cyclinder

Their conclusion is engine mis-fire and no idea why... New engine has been ordered and will do the swap next week
